How to clean fusibles off irons

I used acetone that I use to dilute old nail polish and I also used ironing on a sheet of computer paper with salt on it. They both helped but my irons are both still a little sticky. I was thinking isopropyl alcohol might work. I used to have iron cleaner. They may sell that at the local stores. Anybody have an easy solution? Jan

Warmish iron, scrap fabric over a corner edge to scrape it off first, then damp scrap fabric & elbow grease, is how I dealt with my last gunge up. (try not to steam your fingers, between the damp cloth & warm iron  )

Guess I will use potholders. Got the idea of potholders from a google search. I do like to burn myself cooking though.

If you have a teflon bottom this might not be a good idea, as you could end up scratching it. If you have a steel bottom, then, yes it will get some scratches, but it is not so bad.

I've used old dryer sheets and when I didn't have any around I poured a little diluted Downy fabric softener on an old cloth and iron over it to clean the gunk off. It worked ok.

I wonder why the dryer sheets and Downy work so well. I bought a knock off of the Mr Clean eraser to try. I gunked up both of my irons. One is tefllon coated so I'll be careful not to scratch there, Rosemary. Thanks, Rosemary, Pam and Karen. (I don't use dryer sheets or Downy.)

I've had people tell me that the Mr. Clean works really well on getting fusible off your iron. Get it wet, squeeze out the excess water and iron it with a hot iron. Good luck.

The magic eraser knock off worked fine for my irons. The teflon coated one probably needs more work.
