Designing a pictoral quilt with EQ

I was playing with EQ6 today and used it to design a little appliqued wall hanging/birthday gift. I imported a photo into patchdraw and I finally got the hang of it!

I put up 'step-by-step' on my blog, partly so that I remember what I did (duh!) and partly in case there's anyone as clueless as I am...LOL
Anyway, it was fun to do and I hope someone else can use what I
    learned. : )

Very clever Gisela! I have EQ 6 but haven't had much time to play.... have only designed a couple of simple geometric shaped quilts. This could come in VERY handy for my Beatles quilts I am planning on doing.... IF I can remember what u did! Thanks for sharing.

Gisela, I have EQ5 but am afraid I'm such a technoidiot that I've had difficulty with it. I took a couple of classes with QU and got a little better but I would love to do what you did because my dearest wish is to make a credible portrait quilt. Did you have EQ5? Am I right that the tracing capability on it is restrictive? You can't just take the "pencil" and trace, you have to manipulate the lines to get curves and to make closed applique pieces. I couldn't get it to work very well. But I can't wait to have time to really look at what you've posted.

            Hi Patti,
I never had EQ5, so don't really know what the differences are. I just started quilting about a year ago about the time EQ6 came out. In EQ6, I used 'patchdraw' and the free-hand tool for the curved lines. I have a Wacom pen and tablet too, and that makes it SO much easier! Sorry -- I don't know if that's much help...

Thanks Gisela, If EQ5 has a freehand tool, I haven't figured it out but then I haven't stuck with it until I figured it out.

I've used EQ5 for several years, and am about to get EQ6 this week upgrade, and hope it works well. I lost my old computer due to failure of HD, so I'll have to install EQ5 first before I can install the EQ6, and wish I didn't have to do that. I have a favorite laptop and it should go fine, but even though I made a quilt or two with it, I really designed lots that never got made, and found it took me away from sewing. Not sure whether, once I get it, will I actually install it, because I'm so happy not designing them first, just free-forming it. Ha! Live long and have fun!
