Terrific photos from everyone, thank you very much. I am sorry missed it this year but maybe next year :!: :!: :!: :!:
My apologies Lorna for saying your triangle quilt was Lorchen’s but from Wendy’s description on the photo I assumed it was Lorchen. Beautiful quilt.
There has been some mention on one of my groups about the contempory quilt winner being a Baltimore so therefore should have been in the traditional group. Anyone got a photo of that? And the other winners?

Maureen I don't seem to have a photo of the contemporary winner, but here are a few other winners. Maybe somebody else has it. I don't recall seeing a Baltimore quilt in the winners area, but maybe I missed it.
Pictorial Quilt - Janneke de Vries-Bodzinga 'Poor and Rich'
Two Person Quilt - Mark Mann and Bridget Mann 'Dear Mrs. Morcom' (why? who? - this one didn't seem to have any quilting but very striking)
Miniature Quilt - Roberta Le Poidevin 'A Hundred Acres' (There was a big version of this in the French collection)

I think this was the winner in the contemporary quilt category - but I could be wrong. I am away from home and don't have the booklet to hand to look it up. I seem to recall it having something to do with the sun and the moon. There were two layers of organza - one representing the sun the other the moon (or night and day?) The fractured effect was created with ribbons but there was no batting in between. The rules said that there had to be 3 layers so I was confused by this one. Do you think the ribbons counted as the third layer? I think it's a great piece nonetheless.

This won Best Quilt Creation - Kate Crossley 'Clock'

Thanks for the photos Rita. I am in the CQGB group (Contempory Quilt Group of the Quilters Guild of Great Britain) so I went to check on the discussion again and my apologies, the quilt was the visitors choice. I have put some of the discussion below.
What is a contemporary Quilt? The Visitor's Choice at this year's FOQ was certainly not a Contemporary Quilt yet it was in this section. I would have thought the Judges or the hangers would have picked it up and asked for it to be moved. I would consider the Baltimore a traditional quilt.
The hanging angels and the judges would loved to have moved the quilt you mentioned, Nava, but there is currently no provision to do so, but it is being carefully considered as that quilt was stunning and would most likely have won a prize of some sort had it been entered in the correct category. The whole definition thing is being looked at again by the people concerned as this was a question frequently asked.
Very interesting discussion. I also wondered about whether the winning piece can be said to be a quilt. Not because of the number of layers - two layers is fine, that has been agreed for some time now - but because as far as I could tell, the two layers were not joined together by stitching - except possibly at the very top? Maybe the two layers could be have been joined in a couple of places by a long piece of thread? However it was such a beautiful piece that I am not complaining! It well deserved the prize.
On the question of categories, in spite of the fact that I didn't have time to see all the quilts in the categories properly, as I was very tied up with my gallery and teaching, I noticed, just in passing by, that some quilts did not seem to be in the right category. I think there is a case for the organisers or the judges to advise on which category each piece will be best placed in. Not easy to arrange though! Clarifying the categories, and a clear 'warning&# 39; note that entrants should read carefully the 'small print' in the categories before making their decision, could be of some help.

Susan, none of the shows in the UK large or small are roped off so it is very easy to get up close and personal with them. My sister and I were very disappointed when we went to both Huston and Paducah that we couldn't get very close to the quilts.Originally posted by suehenyonBeautiful photographs of a lovely show. Isn't it fun to see the photographs after the show and realize the detail? I don't know about this show, but so many shows here in the US rope off the quilts so those of us with bad eyesight can't see up close. Photographs take care of that issue.
Thanks for all the sharing.

Rita, you take excellent photos. Thanks for sharing. I used the photo of all of us TQS ladies standing together on my blog, but if anyone comes across the fun one with our arms out, I'd still like to substitute it.
It's now 4:30 AM and I'm in the studio getting started on a new piece and hoping to get over jet lag by the end of the week.

Rita, for the life of me I can't think which category the two layers of organza quilt won. Hopefully someone else will come up with that.
I have this photo as winner of Contemporary quilts. It is double sided, looking very similar on the back.
Made by Ruth Parker, UK from recycled cotton shirts, silk and polyester ties.

In leafy Berkshire, south of England.
