Here goes, this may be too many pictures for here, but I just have to do it. There was also a Stars for a New Day by Linda James there, but I'm not sure she's a member of TQS.
Attending this show was an awesome experience, made much richer by being able to pal around with Betty Jo. She's so much fun and sew knowledgeable. I told her it was like the acolyte being able to hang out with the Bishop of quilting.

I was so inspired by the quilts at the show. I spent a long time staring at the best ones trying to learn what I could from just looking, which, at this time in my developing quilting, is a fair amount. Here are a few things, but not everything by any stretch of the imagination:
1. Tiny pebble quilting is really popular now;
2. Quilting seems to be getting more and more dense;
3. Painted quilts are really well accepted now and increasingly used as a technique;
4. A lot of interesting textures are being achieved with what might almost be considered free motion embroidery that serves also as quilting;
5. And what was most clear at the show (and at the Philadelphia show last year also) is that VERY bright jewel tones are favorites of the judges at the moment.
I wonder if others would agree with me.

BJ, I am going to Paducah and MQS this year. I will pay attention to these things and see if you are right. Thanks for passing this on. If I come up with anything else, I will let everyone know. I am nowhere near entering a quilt in a show, but this is part of the learning process. Thanks again!
I forgot to say I loved you quilt. I remember when you were looking for the right night sky fabric. I think you have it there. Congratulations on the show. I hope I get to see it later this spring.

Returned late last night from the Quiltfest - a wonderful trip and great classes.
Saw Betty Jo's Noel - it was lovelier in person than in photos - well done.
There was also a terrific quilt from the HST exchange (Friendship Triangles). My picture didn't turn out or I would've posted it. I believe the quilter was Susan Combs. What fun to see another creative use of the HSTs! I couldn't find my own HST but did see Ricky Tims' and Alex Anderson's.

I'm so sorry I didn't check the forum before I left for Hampton last Tuesday. I was incredibly busy with last minute household stuff. Susan, thanks for taking and posting my quilt picture. This was my first attempt at getting into a big show, so I was really excited to receive the letter from Mancuso, saying "We are pleased to inform you . . . " I have been attending this show since it was in Williamsburg, sometimes with a local quilt group, sometimes with my sister, who recently moved to Norfolk. We would have been happy to get together with other TQS members for dinner together or whatever. Let's try again next year!

Susan, thanks for all the great pictures. BJ and Jane, congratulations on having your quilts on display at such a prestigious show! I imagine that BJ is right in her observations about what's in vogue at quilt shows now, but as for me I love VARIETY! You ladies just keep doing the beautiful work you do!
