    Judges comments

I had my quilt returned to me after showing it at the AQS DesMoines show. I thought there would be something with the judges comments on it so I would know what to do to improve. There were none. Anyone know if you normally get judges comments?

No judges comments at the AQS Knoxville show either.

The judges at our local show give comments. I'm such a chicken that I haven't opened my yet to read them.

Hi Ritzy, when I had my quilt in the AQS Lancaster show this Spring and it was returned there were no judges comments either. I was disappointed too. I should be getting my quilt tomorrow but if you have no comments, then there will probably not be any comments on Norhtern Lights either. I did have my quilt appraised and I did get comments which were good. They commented on the fabric, stitching, quilting, design, etc. I would imagine it is hard to judge and write comments since time is pretty limited. It was fun seeing you and hope we can do it again sometime soon in the near future!!!!

Hi, I was curious, hearing you all say you didn't get comments. So I went back through the pile of stuff (that should be in a binder) and found my last AQS show was Paducah in April and I got comments on both quilts there. Not sure why you didn't get any. Maybe it wouldn't hurt for you to call them and ask.?

It says on the application form of all the AQS quilt shows (with the exception of Paducah) that there will be no written evaluations for the quilt. I've always assumed it's a time issue. At Lancaster, Des Moines, and Knoxville, you send your quilt to Paducah, and I don't think they judge them until the day before wherever the show is. Since the AQS office is in Paducah, I've always assumed they have more time to judge the show in Paducah so they can provide a written evaluation. And Frances, don't be afraid to read the comments. Good or bad they are meant to be helpful. And they usually aren't 'bad' they just have information and suggestions that can make you a better quilter.
