    Coffin/Tattoo quilts!

I saw an ad for a gallery showing, and just HAD to find the website to figure out what this was... I'm not into tattoos at all, but she's come up with some very cool art...
    http://www.coffinquilts.com/
There are non-tattoo quilts as well, but I don't know the significance of the coffin shape? No reference to actually using them in a coffin!
I'm going to try to get to the show, and try not to be creeped out by the other tattoo art (sorry to offend any of you who like them, just not my cup of tea...although my Australian-born niece did get a tiny Southern Cross on her hip)
    Enjoy!

There is some lovely work there!

I think the coffin is the Goth idea of shock tactics. A bit old hat but there you go. Also if it's getting an 'old fashioned' textile hobby out there with another generation, well done her!! I'm all for that.

I must say that her scrap quilt shows her dedication to fabric finding!!!

Tattoos are not my cup of tea either, but these quilts are very artistic and show good workmanship. Some are very pretty, rather than too Goth.

I don't care for tats, either, but these are kinda interesting. The coffin shape isn't new--it was used in the 1800's. Remember the famous "Graveyard Quilt"? Everytime a family member died, the coffin around the border got moved into the center with their name on it. Linda Otto Lipsett wrote a book about it. There were also pieced quilts made with the coffin shape. I believe Quilter's Newsletter had an article about coffin quilts not too long ago. Judy in Torrance
