Brink, I am going to blame your computer for contaminating mine but it probably isn't the reason. But any excuse is better than none. Hope you like your new laptop and I hope my own computer will be back in my hands and working soon.
Quilter Lynn, it was actually July of 07 when my computer was stolen and yes, this is the replacement so it is less than two years old and I am more than frustrated that it is giving me problems but things are not engineered to live a life time like the old Singers that our Grandmothers bought and expected to use for their whole life. Oh well I guess I am getting old when I think a machine of any kind should last two years or more. LOL Hope to see you soon in the VAlley,
Hugs, Ann

Well, the Geek Squad released my computer with a diagnosis of a "dead mother board". Next came calls to the extended warranty company and Hewlitt Packard. All the necessary things to send the dumb thing in for repairs have been ordered and should be here by April 1. So wish me luck. My usual luck is that what ever is promised either doesn't come or comes late. we really do not want to leave the Valley until the computer is back in our hands so we will just have to see what happens. It seems to me that a necessary component of a computer should last more than two years but then I am old fashioned. I used the same sewing maching for almost forty years. Oh well new modern engineering and technology. will check in as often as I can on my friend's computer.
Hugs, Ann

Anne,
I really feel your pain. So, I truly wish you luck.
I hope sharing my experience will help you. My PC died after a power failure a few weeks ago and HP replaced my hard drive, motherboard, video card and power supply. The PC was returned last Saturday and I'm still in the process of restoring software, data files, e-mail address lists, etc.
The good news is that I had a backup of my data files, but the bad news is that the last backup was on 12-31-08. So, I lost anything added or updated since then--I had to re-download my TQS 2009 BOM instructions for Jan, Feb & Mar. Going forward, I'll be making backups at least monthly and dusting behind my PC more often.
More bad news, HP restored all of my software back to what was originally installed when my PC was new in July 2006. Not a huge problem, except that I've been restoring software updates/fixes ever since--very time-consuming. My original PC software included Norton Antivirus, but I use McAfee Security. Since you can only safely use one PC antivirus, I had to uninstall Norton and reinstall McAfee. Everytime I reboot, I am notified to load more Windows, HP or AT&T automatic updates, which require more reboots--eventually, I suppose that I'll get all caught up. Also, I was previously using grandfathered versions of some software, like my AT&T Browser which is no longer being maintained. Some of the changes resulting from the repair have caused my PC to work differently and it's taking a while for me to adjust.
The best news is that I can now get back onto TQS!!!Lyndhurst, Ohio USA - East Side Suburb of Cleveland, Ohio
