    Traveling with sewing machine

Hi, Does anyone have any advice or experience on taking your sewing machine on an airplane? I am considering going to a retreat in CA and I live in PA. Should I just rent a machine and leave mine at home?

    Sherry,
I have traveled with my Bernina. I bought a Tutto "sewing machine on wheels" case. It packed and rolled very easily.

The first time, it all went through X-ray at security with no problem. The next time(s) I had to unpack the sewing machine so they could X-ray the bag again without the machine in it. A definite hassle.

When you get on the plane, you need to be able to lift the sewing machine above your head (or get someone else to do it for you) to put in the overhead bin.

If I'm traveling without DH, I think I'll take my 11 lb. Janome next time.

    Good luck,
    Sharon in Colorado

Sharon, Thanks for the info. I think I might leave the machine at home. It sounds like it could take a lot of energy to take it along. Sherry

I take my Featherweight on the airplane with no problem. The only thing you need to do is remove the needle, as you can't get that past airport security. I carry it in a special Featherweight bag manufactured by Jean Lyle, and it's a breeze.
