Ann you have turned me into an addict I got Ricky's book and I am on my third one getting ready to start my 4th. I haven't quilted any of them yet as I can't stop making the tops. I had some fabrics that I thought were pretty ugly but when put into a convergence quilt they shine. I think a lot of my friends will be getting one for Christmas. I will probably be appearing on the tv show "Intervention" Hope I can go to recovery in La Veta.

I've just decided --- my next project will be a convergence. I've been loving all the ones posted and remembered I had purchased one of Ricky's patterns several years ago. I just dug it out and now I just have to decide on fabric. I can see how they can be addictive. Will keep you posted.

You and I must have had the same brain wave go thru us, I just got the book too and here is my 1st attempt in progress. I had time while the raffle quilt was drying after being blocked and couldn't resist the temptation, lol.

Linda that's so cool! I've read the book cover to cover at least three times. I'm not allowing myself to even look at my stash for suitable fabrics yet--gotta finish the project I'm working on so it won't get stuck on the back burner. Maybe I'll just look at all the pictures one more time!

Well, I'm an addict, too. Did my first convergence after attending the Super Seminar in Knoxville in September. It was a while before I quilted it, but tried Ricky's flame stitch and it turned out very well. So I made another just to remember how and then did a demo for my small quilting group in May. I am now working on the border of the 2nd one, using fused flowers from the focus print, and have only the narrow border done on the 3rd. They sure are fun to do.

Okay, I'm going to go pick out some fat quarters and give this convergence technique a go. A friend gave me Ricky's convergence book a little while back, and I'm wanting to get into art quilting, so I guess it's meant to be. One question though, what kind of fabric works best? I don't have a whole lot of batiks in my collection, so I'll try it with a large print floral.
Will let you know how I go...
Hi to all the frequent forum visitors, I'm just new to the site.

Dear Ann,
You'll be glad to know that today I finally finished a convergence quilt that has been sitting around for over 5 years because I could not decide how to quilt it....I hand dyed the fabrics in India 7 years ago, pieced it in South Africa 5 years ago and hope to post a picture later this week (have to borrow daughter's camera since mine is dead)
I ended up machine quilting part of it.
cheers and looking forward to seeing your pics

If I am doing a harmonic convergence that is small, I start with a one inch strip and will sometimes repeat the same size in the middle so that the outside strip is always the largest (for example, 1, 1 1/2, 1 1/2, 2. 3 for a nine inch square. Usually my small convergences are done with the second technique in the book which is more free form cutting and merging rather than the straight cuts of the harmonic. And occasionally if I want the harmonic convergence effect but still a small quilt I will use two squares instead of four of a hand dyed fabric with a lot of gradations to it. Then I can work with somewhat wider strips and still have the finished result small. Hope this helps, Ann
