Living in a rural area with no high-speed internet available, it's impossible for me to watch the videos on this site.

I'd really like it if more of your lessons were available in text/drawings format as well as the video. I'm sure I'm not the only one out here with slooooooooow internet!

I have the lowest of the high speed available and videos are a PITA to watch. Tried one this morning again, said would be nice to not have it fractured but for as little as I would benefit I am not spending the extra $$$$$ monthly just for the next level. Gosh, that would pay for the fabric for a quilt. I spend too much time on the computer as it is, don't need to find ways to spend more time there.

I can use the library and do so when the home computer has a holiday. My issue remains that it is either sewing or computer time, even if I am retired, and as it is I spend more time on the computer than with the sewing machine.

It's not necessarily a question of the speed of your internet access. You also need to consider how you learn best. Some of us assimilate information and instructions visually, and others need to hear or read them. And then there are the quilters who learn best by actually doing it themselves. In a perfect world there would be instructions just right for each quilter. Being a teacher and having written instructions I'd like to remind everybody that it takes quite some time to produce written instructions. They not only need to be mega-accurate and clear, but they should also be 'tested' by several people before being shared....... Anyway...... it would be really nice to have a bank of written instructions, but it may simply be too much work to do a video AND a written version.

For members whose internet access is a little (or a lot) slow I recommend buying the DVDs through the 'Shoppe'. They are worth every cent!

Lorchen--Your answer about the written instructions is bang on. I had a small group of quilters who would visit my house for "tea" to see what current works I was displaying. Based on that they would "order" classes. As I very much go to the beat of my own drummer my quilts are generally "evolutions" as I go. This meant I then wrote lesson plans as I made a second quilt. The main student passed away prematurely and then we moved. If there is anything I miss from my previous quilting experiences it is this friendship. I enjoyed writing the take-home instructions, though that took a lot of time, but also teaching the steps. They enjoyed coming back for the next step. This was true quilting friendship. Many would have gone on to market the patterns but that side has never been on my radar.

Leafy if you can buy the DVD's it is the best way, as much as I would like to watch the videos they take up too much of my allowance so I buy one as they come on line in the TQS Shoppe. I discuss the postage costs with the staff and they send them to me via the cheapest way which does save a lot of $$$.

But I cannot stress enough how much easier it is to watch the shows at my leisure and when I want, in the middle of the night when I cannot sleep or just anytime, I have watched them over and over again, I also will see or read or hear of something patchworking that I am not sure of how to do and will them think of how I had seen it on one of the DVD's, so I look on the show lists that come with the DVD and always find what I am looking for , I also find I can replay something over and over again and write up instructions and notes as much as I want to. And when I am looking for inspiration you can watch a few shows and something always grabs me and I now have the complete set.

So please do consider this suggestion as I too live in a rural area and dont have the chance of sewing with friends in any given day and you can always suggest a TQS DVD as a birthday gift or such.

I just bought the dvd's of the series available on the quilt show website (on sale recently and cheaper for members) so all I need is a computer no internet needed. It's great because I can watch them on the very long flight from WNY to Calif to see my daughter and her family!

Check blogs they have written tutorials usually with pictures. It is how a lot of new quilters learn because many can not take classes so they teach each other over the internet.
Here are my favorite bloggers and pod-casters. Most of them have links on their sites to other bloggers. YOU pick and choose what you want to learn. Also check out the quilting magazine's blogs they frequently have free tutorials. What techniques are you interested in?

These ladies are hosting a skills building tutorials after they jointly posted a blog about the DUMBING DOWN OF QUILTING ARTICLE .... THAT turned into a hot topic on the podcast and blog posts.

There was a three part blog post last March 18--23rd. They have since joined together to post tutorials on quilting discussing the basic skills planning to post tutorials they they reach more advance techniques.
