    The Rocking Stitch

Hi everyone - I am trying to improve my quilting stitch - I wonder if it is possible to include a class/video that concentrates on the underneath hand more, if possible - I seem to remember seeing something about a quilter using 'plastic' instead of fabric so that the underneath fingers are visible - it is hard to visualise from written instructions - thanks all!

Jacky, you need to watch Episode #203 with Suzanne Marshall! She shows it with fabric that you can see through!! It's a great show!

Hi Margo - I will have a look at that later - thanks - I think Suzanne works without a hoop doesn't she? No matter - I am sure it will help x

Take a peek at show 310 (you have access to it) and watch segment 2 - Luxuin does a really good job explaining the rocking stitch

Hello Alex! Yes, I have watched show 310 - very impressive, and I have ordered a Liuxin Newman thimble. I am also thinking of ordering one of the round hoops which is fixed to a round base; the type that sits on your lap leaving both hands free.

Jacky, try and go to one of Barbara Chainey's hand quilting workshops. She is one of the best teachers our side of the Atlantic.

Hi Lorchen - I saw Barbara at The Quilt Show in Birmingham last time - she was very good - nice lady isn't she? I asked her if I could look at the back of her work and she said 'WHY DO YOU WANT TO LOOK AT THE BACK?, it is ONLY the back' - it was quite funny - I will look out for her classes near me; I know she does teach around here! x

Jacky, I know that Barbara has a website and that she sometimes teaches course at The Bramble Patch.

Thanks Hannelore - I have found through 'googling' that Barbara is doing a one day course on the Farncombe Estate, Worcs. middle of March - so will book that later! In the meantime I'll keep up the practising. I wish I could get the underneath stitches better, they are way too SMALL ! x

Can't help you with that, Jacky. I work fulltime, and so do as much as possible by machine. I'll tackle handquilting when I retire in 2017.

You are in for a treat. Barbara often brings a whole stack of antique handquilted quilts to workshops and you can study them real close up.
