    Quilt Shops in Jamaica?

DH just won a trip to Montego Bay because he exceeded his targets at work by more than 100%. To most people this would be a good thing, but you couldn't pay me to go to the tropics. Apparently I can be shamed into it, though. I've been told in no uncertain terms that his company expects me to go, and go I shall, if only to buy him peace in the office. I am proud of him, but wish to hell the trip was to somewhere cool, like a ski lodge or something.

Anyhow . . . I need to see the bright side of this. (And no puns about that, if you don't mind!) Does anyone know of any quilt shops in Jamaica, especially in or near Montego Bay? Although we'll be stuck at a resort, I'm hoping we won't be trapped there 24/7.

Cruise ships and tropical resorts are my idea of hell. Please tell me there's quilting in hell, at least.

Anne, I can't help you with information on quilt shops there, but I can relate to your not enjoying the heat . . . . I live in south Georgia (and have for 50 years, moving here when I was in the fifth grade from Ohio). In July, August, and September each year I would cheerfully move to anywhere far, far north of here. On the other hand, my husband thrives in the heat. A perfect example of opposites attract!! I do hope you enjoy your trip.

Hmmm. Why would they need a quilt in Jamaica! LOL Maybe you'll find a nice woolen shop. JUST KIDDING!! Go and enjoy, have a Mai Tai.

Anne, I know exactly how you feel! My husband loves the heat - in fact the hotter the better for him - but I just wilt. I don't know about quilt shops in Jamaica but I do travel a bit with work and I have taken to bringing a small applique project with me to work on the plane or during idle moments. I am heading to Bucharest on saturday for a week and I have just cut out all my pieces for the project I will be taking with me. This is how small it packs up -

I put it all in a ziplock bag in my carry-on bag so that I can take it out and show it if I have to. I haven't had to show it yet! I have travelled with this little nail scissors in my hand luggage the last few times without problems. I carry a spare pair of scissors in my checked-in luggage, just in case. The next project after this one is going to be a hexagon quilt so I will bring enough cut-outs to make several flowers or diamonds while I travel and then I can put it together when I am back home.

So, how about quilting by the pool, in the shade, with a large Rum Punch by your side! That's how I would do it.

          Good point! LOL!

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone. Rita, your handwork project is a good idea. Love the colours! Enjoy Bucharest. Now THAT'S a place I'd like to go!
