You could always try making a silk purse out of a sow's lug

Is there any 'american' we should be learning whilst we are at it?

      You are all a riot!

      Thanks for making me smile!

Here, a lug is a type of bolt or screw. You use a lug wrench to tighten it or to remove it. I am sure we have many unusual words too, but I can't think of anything except goober. It is another word for peanut. It is also a derogatory term to describe a silly, or unintelligent, person. As in "he is a goober" or "he is such a goober".

          Hmmm…. I'm thinking.

And some used the word goober to describe what the stuff is that comes out of your nose.
I, too, am sure there are many but at the moment I can't think of one. We get into the habit of thinking that everyone knows the same words we do and so they don't seem strange.

              .
We call those 'bogies' (definitely not to be confused with boogies!) Or just straight forward 'snot' which gives us 'grotty snotties' for a used handkerchief. Toddlers with a streaming nose are described as having a 'No. 11 on the top lip' , or the slightly more revolting is a 'No. 10' - ie they desperately need their nose blowing/wiping - ick.

Ritzy, I was going to post that information, then decided against it, but glad you did.

Done as a circle song/dance. Follow the instructions until the chorus, then everyone in the circle holds hands and rushes into the middle and out again with each refrain of Whoa the hokey cokey. This is a fairly shortened version of the song, it can go on much longer and there are other actions that can be added.
