ATTN RICKY: ? KOOL KALEDISCOPE QUILT

I have watched the DVD twice. In one portion when cutting the second set of strips you stated you would give a tip on what to do if your template is toooo large and you do not have enough for your SIX TIMES TEMPLATE.... I could not find the answer to that problem.

    Do you make more fabric

    or

DO YOU CHANGE THE ANGLE OF YOUR TEMPLATE PLACEMENT.

Is there another way of handling this problem ???

BTW: What do you do with your left over fabrics? There seems to be a lot of leftover scrap pieces and I was wondering what you do with them..... Please do not tell me you toss them... Your fans would probably KILL for them.

I'm not Ricky (I wish I had his talent and natural charm though), but keep your scraps in a safe place. Apparently there will be a need for scraps in the 2009 BOM.

I usually use scraps in a MILE A MINUTE block... We use these blocks in charity quilts. Lately I put machine applique on them...I need the practice at applique.

What does everyone else do with their scraps?

My understanding is that if you lay out yor template at a certain angle 6 times and it doesn't fit then you need to change the angle. I have bought my fabric for one of these!

I saw Ricky and Alex in Buffalo last week and bought both the Kaleidescope DVD and the Rapsody book (that will have to wait awhile). I worked over the weekend and have most of my wedges sewn together and up on the disign wall. THIS IS SUCH A FUN PROJECT!!! For this one, I used all fabrics from my stash just to see if it works and am already visualizing the next one.

I discovered 2 things so far: for the "nose" of the wedge, I had enough fabric to cut all 6 twice, which is a good thing because the first time, I had sort of a circle instead of a star. I realized that the angle of each piece in relation to the strips is vital. Maybe I'll use that first try and make a pillow. For the last piece, I barely fit all 6.

I am having a hard time coming up with "Butt" and border fabrics. I used so many different colors in all my strip sets that it's hard to figure out which one works in the borders. I ended up with a fabric for the butts that isn't even in the strips at all.

This project reminds me of Stack N Whack in that you don't really know how it will turn out until you sew them together. It's such fun! I think Ricky is an amazing artist and somewhat of an engineer for coming up with this stuff!!! Nancy in W. New York

My DVD came and it is amazing.... the thought of sewing together all those pieces and angles is a bit intimidating though!

I haven't tried this yet, but it is certainly on my "TO DO" list. This is one of the coolest quilt patterns I've seen for using up scraps. It's called "Maverick Stars" and you can find this free pattern at http://quiltville.com/maverickstars.shtml.

              Check it out!

I am totally loving the process. My question is . Can I use starch while putting the wedges together, Maybe it will stabilize the fabric???
