    Hexagons

I have started to do a little handpiecing using hexagons. I am using freezer paper to make the paper templates - using it shiny side up on the wrong side of the fabric and ironing the fabric over to 'stick' rather than the traditional way of tacking the fabric over. I started with hexagons 30+ years ago! I am going to do a miniature grandmothers flower garden. I haven't quite thought through how I am going to finish the edges yet - Has anybody got any ideas?

You might want to check out Marcia Baker's video that shows how to apply bindings to a quilt with hexagon edges. http://www.online-quilting.com/video...ree/index.html (Scroll down to "Finishing the Edges") If it's miniature, you might consider doing a faced binding. Teri (LittleFlower) recently had a link on her blog to Jeri Riggs' blog showing how to do faced bindings: http://jeririggs.blogspot.com/2008/0...or-quilts.html

Jacky, you didn't ask for a binding tute for curved or scalloped bindings, but Sharon Schamber has an excellent video here:

Thanks Margo - I've done scalloped bindings before - I was also wondering whether to straighten up the sides - am just about to look at your links!

Did you see the tumbling blocks quilt on the Sept 6, 2010 Daily Blog by Karinlisaquilts? It was appliquéd onto a foundation to create a straight edge without having to cut off parts of some of the blocks. Great look!
