    needles, needles

I am trying to stock up on supplies - does anyone know the difference between a schmetz microtex sharp and a plain sharp needle? Preferences for piecing cotton and paper piecing?

I believe the MicorTex needle has a larger and shaped hole that allows fancy thread to go through it with less drag... especially the metallic threads. I also thought the MICROTEX is made from a stonger and special alloy. It is not stamped like the regular sewing needles but extruded when being made by the manufacture.

For more accurate information try goggling MicroTex and visit the manufactures web pages.

Microtex is a bit finer/sharper point than regular sharp needles. I keep a stock of #80's(12), 90's(14) & 100's(16) on hand for piecing and most general sewing. For quilting and metallics or other specialty threads, topstitch #90 & #100 are a must to have on hand. With these 2 kind of needles you will be able to rock & roll for a long time to come. You can also go to the Superior Thread site and get a lot of good needle info there. Just remember to change out the needle after a MAX of 8 hrs sewing time.

TTFN, Happy Quilting & If in doubt...change out is the rule I follow.
