Silk thread?

    Silk thread?

Hi everyone - I have only just started to do applique work - I am using silk thread, which I really like as it does completely disappear on the surface. I am wondering though, as it is so fine - is it as strong as using cotton thread? I would hate to think of everything dropping off my work later down the line! Thanks - Jacky

I like silk thread very much and have it in many colors. I have also used and like DMC 50 wt weight--as the silk is used up, as if that is possible, I will switch to cotton as it is less expensive. The strength seems to be about the same and many of the top applique' people use silk while other top applique' people use cotton. Choose which you like best.

I like the YLI silk 100 and the 50 masterpiece thread. . .I tried DMC on a project and found that the thread had a number of knots in it. . .go figure???? I think that the silk stitches are easier to hide; but I like both threads. Terry

I love the Superior Threads 60 wt. bobbins for applique. They come in tons of colors and I put them in a bobbin saver which makes them very portable.

After trying numerous types of thread, I have found that I prefer MasterPiece. Superior recently introduced a Rainbow Donut which is bobbins of many colors of MasterPiece--a good supply of many colors! YEA!!!
