Where to find sources for applique design.

Was thinking that I'd like to do applique on pillows and like Sue Garman's designs. Will try Quakertown Quilts where she sells some of her design. But looking for books or patterns that are good. I also like PotPourri Pieces who are a vendor at our local quilt show. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jan

    Hi Jan,
Potpourri Pieces, Jo Coon, is a wonderful vendor and she's a great pattern designer. If you're a beginner appliquist(?)then I'd look for patterns with larger pieces. Check out Piece O'Cake, Mickey Depre, people like that.

Don't forget Ricky's Rhapsody supplements Baskets and Flowers, Feathers and Urns, etc. I wanted ten flowers for my dgd's quilt and just couldn't come up with ten different designs by myself. (I probably could of but felt pressed for time and short on creativity right then) so I went to the baskets and Flowers book and found ten flowers that worked perfectly. well, I did some creative "Ann" adaptions to make them fit my squares but having that resource helped the process along tremendously. I have wanted to do a quilt with the dancing warriors from the Sacred Age dvd for a while and in the latest supplement - cannot remember the name but something western and southwest - are some great drawings of the warrior so some adaptions of that may show up in my next endeavor. Also love the Celtic designs and guess what he has a supplement with them too. Ricky's creativity is never ending and I appreciate his sharing so my creativity can be spurred on. Ann (a Ricky fan, if you never guessed that before!!!!! lol)

Thanks for the suggestions. Would like to know people's favorite books as well. I have a gift certificate from Borders to use. Thanks, Jan

          Jan,
Try going to Borders.com and typing "applique" in the search box. When I'm looking for something there, sometimes I go to Amazon.com and check out the reviews, etc. If I like/want that book, I'll order it from Borders.
When it comes to books, what appeals to me may not appeal to you.
          Hope this helps,

You don't just have to look at quilt/applique books.

Dover Needlecraft do design books on lots of different subjects and styles, these can be very useful as they are usually black and white outline pictures that you can adapt to any craft technique you fancy. Another source can be colouring in books for children if you want your patterns really simple. Also how about crafters/stampers magazines? If it is a nice outline design it can be enlarged to fit your space and appliqued or whatever technique you fancy.

I mostly want to do flowers. I was wishing I could find photos of flowers. Maybe google would help. Will let you know what I find. Will look up Dover books and work on this a bit more. Lol I should be marking and quilting a non-applique quilt today. Thanks again for all of your help. Jan

Melinda Bula has her book, "Cutting Garden Quilts" in the TQS shoppe, I think. Hers is fusible and it's by the numbers.

While looking for quilt books at Barnes and Noble to see what I'd like to buy with my Borders gift certificate, I found Rose Hughes' book "Dream Landscapes". I loved what she did with those landscapes. The colors are great. So I ordered it online at Borders. I wonder if it will be my last quilt book. It shows how to do landscapes with foundation paper with curved pieces. I'll have to buy her webcast on TQS to see that too. Lol, I'm interested in everything quilting. Jan
