    Organza in quilts

Have any of you ever made art quilts using primarily organza ? Saw some recently and am anxious to try. Any advice ?

    #2
I once made a block that was layered this way. . .backing, batting, background, silk daisy flowers, organza. I free motioned quilted the organza over the flowers. I used silk thread on top and MasterPiece thread in the bobbin and a small needle to quilt around the flowers and attach all the layers. It looked great when it was finished and I was surprised how easy it was to work with the organza.

      Terry,
Can you post a picture ? What was the background fabric ? Sounds beautiful.

Judyc, I wish I had won the blocks that month (it was my guild's BOM); but I didn't. So I don't have a photo of the end result.

Ineke Berlyn works a lot with sheers and her quilts are spectacular (a lot of them double-sided). Have a look at her website. She has also written books and gives classes - a very nice and very talented lade. Ricky and Alex should invite her.

She is one of the quilt artists I was so fascinated by. Saw her work in an art quilt book and went to her site. She actually sales a kit for an organza quilt. I'm hoping to order one. Would love to see her on the show. I've never seen a photo of her sheer quilts and can't "picture" it.

Anything made from sheers is very difficult to photo graph. But here is a small (6x10 inches) piece I made. It's displayed in an acrylic frame.

Esterita Austin uses organza on some of her quilts to show glass. She has a very interesting technique. You would have to take one of her classes to learn ii. You might also want to contact her go to her website.
