Fabric requirements for the Flying Geese border

    Margo
Can you post the fabric requirements (cutting sizes) for the flying geese border - not for the background fabric, but just for the geese. eg. number of colours and dimensions.

I want to be sure that I have enough fabric left of all (most) of my fabrics to allow me to have continuity in all the borders. If I need to introduce another fabric or two, I would like to add it into the border stars as well as the geese, but I am hoping that what I have will hold out.

Actually - it would be really great to have just the fabric requirements pages for each month posted in advance - so as to help with forward planning. Hint Hint...

    Thanks
    Karen

Here, Here Kazzy,,,,,I agree! I would love to see the monthly fabric requirements posted here in advance too. I think a lot of us are using up our stash on this project, and while I have put together a number of fabrics that I think look good together I'm hoping I'll have enough for the monthly blocks.

Sorry to be late with this response...but my computer is STILL in the shop, and I'm not spending nearly as much time checking TQS as I usually do.
I'll have to get with Sue and the folks at TQS to see what they want to do about posting the yardages for you.
I'll let you know what they say!

Kazzy, have you had a private reply? I'm wondering if I will have enough fabric due to making extra HST. I want this to fit our Eastern King bed. I've been watching, but still no reply from Margo or Sue. I also wonder which month we will have them on our schedule. Sally

I won't be doing the flying geese border on my quilt as I have a really great border print that needs to be used, but I believe these blocks will finish at 3" x 1 1/2" if the photo we received with the first lesson is to scale. Fabric requirements will depend on the method you use to make these blocks. If you are doing the diagonal corner method you will need a 3 1/2" x 2" print and two 2" x 2" background fabrics for each.

Please accept my humble apology for not posting a note here.
Sue and I talked and decided that since this is a Block of the Month, and not a complete quilt pattern, and because the total yardages were listed at the beginning of the project, we will not post monthly directions ahead of time. Annis is right, however. The flying geese units will measure 3" x 1-1/2" and the yardage needed will depend on the method you are using.
I hope that helps anyone who is concerned about running out of fabric.

Thanks Margo for asking. I knew it was a big ask. - I didn't want to spoil the BOM "surprise" for that month - but on the other hand having some idea of fabric requirements for each border (not just for the overall quilt) is helpful for forward planning.

Thanks Annis for helping me to do the calculations to estimate the sizes. I'll have to check a few of my smaller fabrics pieces to see how they measure up.

For my needs - I would want to include all prints at least once on each side, but some prints will have 2 or 3 on each side. Having the basic idea of how much to allow for each geese lets me do some planning.
