I sewed and ripped out and sewed and ripped out until I go so aggravated.
Finally I decided, I'm going to applique mine. And that is just what I did! I may someday try to sew my paper pieced ones together, but right now I'm going to use the appliqued one. I have posted it in Show and Tell.

I've posted my Jan. BOM I'm not convinced about PP, but I believe somewhere it said that there were traditional directions for the rest of the piecing. That's for me.

Hi, I like paperpiecing because it helps me to be so precise. However, I still drew my quarter inch lines w/pencil on the wrong side of my pieces after they were paper pieced and I took the paper off. I found this little extra step made it much easier to pin and sew to get the points to match. I like hand piecing and am used to my drawn quarter inch lines. Not sure if it will help anyone, but thought I'd put it out there. geneva

I've nevr paperpieced before but have decided to give it a try and stretch myself. However, have also decided that if it is too much then I'll use freezer paper so that I can line up the pieces and get my seams accurate. (It's also handy when you have a fabric that is stretchy and refusing to sew properly.)

I now can say I have joined the club of the finished feathered star group. Since I was working on oriential fabrics to use my stash I had to have a black background. I really took my time working when I had the best light since I have elderly eyes and know my limits. The directions were wonderful and since my first ever BOM was Sue's applique one I started last October, I felt tackling this at the same time was iffy. I am thrilled to have it done before the end of the month and will now start the 5th applique block of 08 BOM. Nice to be in the group and see all the wonderful blocks. Sue you are great keeping aging brain cells active and I thank you for the way you guide us to excell using your patterns.

My January BOM is posted. Thanks for helping me decide on the green fabric for the feathers. I made a few changes from my original plan. The larger center of the 23 inch finished block needed a larger print and the only one I had that would work had a light background so I had to add a narrow border, then the red corner squares needed a little more color so I fussy cut some squares from a print. Since I paper piece with the fabric on top instead of underneath I thought I could do this, but would like to scoot the one at the bottom center over a little to center it. I'm not going to do any unsewing so it will have to do! The corner triangles were cut from a striped print and there was only enough width to cut them on point. My next round is going to require some mitered corners but at least I don't have to do that until next month!

WOW Annis! Your changes are beautiful! How large did you make your block? It looks so different by changing the setting corners like that! Great job!

My finished block is 23". The center is 7 1/16" and you do have to include that 1/16" to get everything to fit but I'm not concerned if it's not part of the finished square since at least that much is lost in the seam allowances. The feathers are 1 1/4" and the corners are 6 3/4". You also have to do partial seam piecing in 5 locations when using the triangles on the corners which takes a little more time but is not that hard. I changed the piecing order to make everything work and pieced the corner triangle squares separately without paper.
