Choosing colors for the pieced 2009 BOM
I am re-watching all of the videos from season one before they expire at the end of December, and think that episode #103 with Joen Wolfram is a perfect reference for choosing colors for the new BOM we will be starting in January. Her book "Visual Coloring" and her 3-in-1 Color Tool are both available in the TQS Shoppe.

OOOH! Sally! I love the sound of those colors! It is going to look like a jewel when you are done! Just think, even if you get frustrated with the pattern (which I don't think you will, because Sue gives wonderful directions) you will get to work with all those wonderful colors!
Maggie in E. Central Illinois, who is thinking New Year's Day is going to be better than Christmas! How early do you think they will have the new BOM available!

I have added my reproduction fabric selections to my profile. Though I have many more fabrics in the closet I thought it was time to say "enough" and just get on with it. I'll start with these.
The floater strips will be cheddar orange, red, green, dark blue or whatever seems to work at that point in the quilt--they will be different from one another.
At first I was concerned I wouldn't have a large floral-type print for the largest pieces but several of these old prints have strong geometrics like stripes that will work nicely I think.
I had also planned to use shirtings for the background but they were too white so I'm going with beige and tan tone-on-tone or small prints.

Jean, that worked well for the 2008 BOM, as I pulled my fabrics from my stash and just let the fabrics and the pattern speak to me. We all know that there are many "right" ways to any one thing!

If you haven't watched it yet, stop whatever you are doing and sit down to see Episode 313 with quilt legend Jinny Beyer!! Her technique for choosing colors is exactly what we need for the 2009 BOM fabric choices, and it makes sense for those of us who don't have formal training in art and/or color theory!

I watched Episode 313 today and now I want to start over with my fabric selections for the 2009 BOM. <sigh> I loved that episode, but now I'm certain I need to take a little different approach to color selection. I'm anxious to see the first BOM pattern and maybe that will help me select a "focus" fabric.

I think this is what I have been building a stash for. Although I do love the look of the quilt using the fabric in the kit. I Am tempted, but I am in a habit of buying kits and I think I need to branch out in my creativity and pick fabrics myself that would look nice together.
Green is my favorite color and I guess that also made the quilt appeal to me. I was a little sadto here that the pic of the quilt was more green than the actual quilt. Obviously I will use green in mine. I also love Jinny Beyer fabric and reproductions (30's and Civil War) Oh my, decisions, decisions.
Yep, I have acquired quite a stash !
I love stars, but have never made this many in these different sizes and have not made a feathered star. Still not sure if I will use the paper piecing method or not. I really like working with templates and am thinking about doing that if I can adapt my templates to this quilt and still have a pleasing effect.
What fun this will be. I have a lot of other projects in the works, but I eventually get them finished. Imagine the self-satisfaction of having these blocks done this time next year !!!
I was so looking forward to this BOM and I am not dissapointed.
It really exites me.
