Steven if you're looking for less prep time take a look at back-basting... I think if you search forum topics you'll find a link to a site that has a good tutorial ( or just google) I started w/ freezer paper... I did an applique years ago like you're doing now & was happy w/ the results, but cutting the back makes me nervous! then I tried FP on top for January & Feb., then discovered back-basting and am hooked. the only thing I do at home is bias stems & circles, plus the original tracing of the design. VERY portable!

Florence, thanks so much for the back basting tip. I'm not really sure how to navigate the forum site here.....i was looking for 'back basting' on google and found a 'pictorial demonstration' but i'm not sure i really get what it is.... :-) Hopefully I'll find that video you were mentioning. If you have any tips about how to find it, i'd appreciate it. Thanks again for your help.

Steven, Your quilts and BOMs are great. Welcome to the group. You might check out Beth Ferrier's show. I believe it was in Series 2. She talked about a washable interfacing type material to use for as a pattern that when washed becomes a fiber and you don't have to take it out. I use it to do needleturn applique and it eliminated taking the paper out.

Everyone's blocks are so wonderful. Thanks to all. Your blocks provide me the inspriation to try to keep up with this BOM. It really is a lot of fun.
I can't believe how far behind I am for the July and August blocks. I have been meeting deadlines on a few other quilts. (I turned in my guild's challenge quilt on time!) Last weekend I did all the prep work for my July block. I am doing mine by needle turn. I am sewing on the last leaves and stems now. I love all those cute little leaves. I should get all the pretty blossoms and hopefully the vase sewn on this weekend. Then on to the berries... and August's block. Yeah!

Lorna, never fear! There is always someone further behind than you....namely ME! I have the first 4 blocks done then I had to switch over to wedding mode. My DD's wedding is August 30th so after that I can try to play catch up all fall. I do have the patterns printed for all my missing months, but other than that, I will be starting from scratch. I haven't lost hope that I will finish the BOM but I know it will be well behind all the others. Reading all the posts and seeing all your blocks is keeping my interest up so I want to thank all the BOM Squad. I just dont need another half finished WHIP in my life. Keep Smiling, Sally in coolish NE Ohio

Welcome Steven to the BOM SQUAD! Your blocks are great and we are glad to have you join us. If you haven't found it yet, I've posted some tutorials about needle-turn applique on my website along with all of the BOM blocks that have been posted so far. I've just added yours, too! It's such fun to see how many different ways the blocks have been interpreted!

Judy, thanks for you comments, I'm happy so far with how it's all turning out.....I'm amazed really.
And the big news today is: I JUST FINISHED the July block (shown on my profile) which means that even tho I started this BOM in April, I'm now only 18 days behind.....I'm hopeful that I will be able to catch up by the end of the month! Yay!
