Dear Ms. Vedeler,
Just to add to the others. Yes please do it for the 830. This block sort of looks like a combination of paper piecing and applique. I think the intro with the monthly recap says it is all applique and that may be why everyone is getting so excited. I agree 100% that paper piecing is must easier without a hoop. I am also planning to use my Bernina cutwork software to do my cutting. I have never done a block of the month but I simply cannot wait to do this. I loved your earlier appearance on the quilt show and I love this pattern.
Just one thought on the questions about stablilizers for foundation piecing. I like to use freezer paper sometimes but I found out after I had done a few things that freezer paper shrinks. So for all of those folks who are going to use freezer paper or regular paper I would strongly suggest they preshrink their paper because if they don't when they iron the stuff they may get some shrinkage. I have found that freezer paper will shrink about 1/16 of an inch on a 81/2 " page across but none on the length of the page. I preshrink by ironing it a couple of times. That seems to do the trick. I am taking your advice though and will be using the Ricky Tims product for the ones that have applique. ellen

Thank you for considering those of us that use the 830 for applique. I got my 830LE in February when they were introduced and I am
happyily sewing away. I too have the cutwork software that I am learning.
You mentioned the Heather Feather go dies. I have your Heather Feather embroidery designs. Can I use parts of these to cut the appliques in the cutwork software?
We all appreciate your doing all you can with the 2012 BOM.

Dear ETerry,
I read with interest your recomendation about preshrinking freezer paper. "I have found that freezer paper will shrink about 1/16 of an inch on a 81/2 " page across but none on the length of the page. I preshrink by ironing it a couple of times."
Do you use steam or a dry iron? When I use steam on freezer paper, it gets bumpy looking. What heat setting do you use?

I used a dry iron. I believe the first time I saw this tip was on an old Alex Anderson show when she was on TV. I later found a quilt book with info in it, but can't remember which one it is. If I can remember I will look it up and send you the info on how they said to do it. I really don't know if other paper shrinks but I am thinking I have heard that it does somewhere else. I love freezer paper because I use a method I saw Judy Matheson(I think that is the right name)do that does not require you to tear it out at the end. Instead of sewing through the paper you iron your fabric to the waxy side of the paper then fold it back on the line and sew right beside the paper. In the end your whole piece is stuck to the freezer paper and you can leav it in until you get it sewn in the design for stability but since you didn't sew through the paper removal is a piece of cake.
This is probably posted in the wrong place but since this is my very first time to commicate like this I don't know how to move it to the stabilizer part.

I took a class from Sharon Schamber a few years back when her book Peicelique first came out and she had us shrink our freezer paper. She had us mist it lightly with spray starch then iron it with a dry iron. Freezer paper shrinks in one direction. Then I saw her on Simply Quilts talk about this also. She has a great web site with nice tutorials that you can check out.

When Sharon Schamber speaks, I listen! I saw her quilt at the Quilt Museum in Paducah last year. "Amazing" doesn't begin to describe it.
Thank you for sharing what you learned with me. I really appreciate it.

p.s. I hope soon to figure out how to add a picture of myself instead of using the generic one! And then maybe this old lady can even add pictures of a few of my quilts!
