Fabric Choices

I've decided my new year's resolution is to complete Ruffled Roses on schedule despite a busy travel schedule. As part of my commitment, I have made my fabric choices, my cross-reference chart, and started my notebook. I've even pre-washed my fabrics! (not my favorite thing to do). Thanks to Margo and Sue who are such inspirations and give practical tips to accomplishing a BOM.

I've decided my approach will be to follow Sue's pattern / with my color choices.

Background / tan neutral
Lavendar / cranberry
Green / green
Pinks / red/pink
Yellow / tea/brown
Blue/ slate gray/blue

The fabric in the foreground is the one I used the selvedge to pick my colors. I hope to use it in the center block.

I have just finished ironing my background fabric. I'm all set to go. I'm using Sue's colors and will be doing a ruffled roses center block. I'm using my stash and found suitable fabric for all but a couple of the greens. My son picked those up for me when he picked up my grandson for the holidays. I'm going to do needle turn and by the looks of the vines and hearts picture that Margo put up, that part will be cutaway appique. This is actually my second applique project and I'm very excited to start. Will keep checking after midnight to see when the first part is up.

I've got 2 greens in the washer right now but you'll get the idea. These are a combination of batiks from Sew Batik, a couple of Stonehenge fabrics and several pieces I hand dyed in a class last June and have been waiting for the perfect project. Since it's going to be kind of scrappy, I don't have a focus fabric, I'm flying by the seat of my pants.

Yes, Yummy fabric, Eileen! One of the longarm quilters in my local groups sells Sew Batiks fabrics, and they all look wonderful! She gave each of us in the group a gift certificate for one yard -- oh boy!!
