Finished quilting yesterday! This was my first time to use spray baste. I sprayed each layer outside and then assembled it on my design wall. I quilted it on my domestic machine. I changed thread colors often. I quilted leaf veins on all the petal pieces but kept all the other motifs simple using mostly swirls and leaves. The binding is a faux binding brought over from the back (which is scrappy as well). I just trimmed the back to 1" larger than the front and then folded half an inch twice towards the front (to end up with a scant half inch binding). Thank you Barbara, for all your wonderful blog information and video posts. Thank you also to Helen W and other forum participants for your kind encouragement.

Ready for quilting. I had fun adding the ric rack vine, flowers and birds to log cabin blocks. Now to make the backing. I am going to add all extra blocks and pieces to the backing. There will be some hand and machine quilting involved.

BarbaraG. Love your vine blocks. Any chance you could take a close up of a couple of the vine
blocks? When I click on your photo it does not do the zoom function for some reason. Great looking
          quilt! HelenW

I decided that my quilt was ready to be quilted. The fabrics just didn't speak to me to continue another round. In the yellow section of the quilt I found decorative wooden buttons to tie the look together. I also watched the recent "Master Class" and really liked Patricia Belyea's way of Facing her quilts. So I decided to try this. I used a single layer (instead of double) and I mitered the corners. I loved the overall look at the back of the quilt with this idea. I found that the design of the fabric I choose was probably not the best for this project, but the fabric truly spoke to me in terms of what was going to work and what wasn't. I'm glad to have started this quilt project but I glad it is also done.

Monique G. Love, love, love the way your top ended up. I just watched the masterclass on bindings
and finishes, but only made it to the start of facing technique. I loved the first way of putting on
binding. I plan to try the single fold instead of double fold on my Pick A Petal. I have been
dragging my feet on finishing it. I am in the process of making the fan blocks and have one side
            done. HelenW

I like the Block of the Month for 2024. I hand stitched the 2 center sections but machine sewed the rest. I'm not to into doing appliqué so I embroidered flowers on each log cabin block. After I was all done with the embroidery I noticed I had forgotten to turn the log cabin block so the embroidery was on the side that would have the darker fabric on the outside. Oh we'll I still think it is unique. I added the dark green stripes between the sections because my eyes just saw something else was needed. I just added a stripped border to finish the design. I just need to quilt on the longerm!

Your log cabins and embroidery really stand out with the darker fabrics surrounding them. Lovely

Diana L, Your personal version of Pick A Petal looks great. I do like the solid colored borders that make the log cabin blocks more
distinct. The embroidery flowers look great too. Barbara Black does have a topic in the forum for finished tops. Maybe
she could move your post there so more people will see it. Great job, I am still working on my fan final border. HelenW

I’m really happy with my finished quilt top. I didn’t realize how large 72” would be and my first thought when it was together was the line from “Jaws”: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

With all the curves, the top is mostly hand-pieced. Appliqué is turned edge by hand. I used a different Jen Kingwell block for the inside corners. The outside corners are an old block I found in Barbara Brackman’s encyclopedia. It just seemed to fit.

Here is my quilt top sandwich ready to be quilted. I just barely started to hand quilt the other night as I watched tv. Right now I am just doing a running stitch around the fans with 3 rows of running stitch on the inner part of the fans. I’ll decide what else I’ll do as I go!

Went to a quilt retreat this past weekend with all my parts and top is DONE!! I love to do turned appliqué but didn't want to deal with those tiny pieces in the kit so used some pattern shapes from Garden Party Down Under (BOM 2022) and another Jen Kingwell quilt. Used Pick A Petal style but bigger florals. Love it. It was a huge hit at the retreat. I still have to quilt Garden Party so Pick will just hang around a bit before the final push to complete. Definitely staying in my home, not a gift!!

HelenW thanks for tip on posting on the See Quilts tab. Love your appliqué!! gorgeous! I kept close to Jen's PAP aesthetic, just simplifying the details. I love hand appliqué but tiny pieces not so much.

Peg, So glad you posted your Pick A Petal in Member Quilts. It did turn out fabulous. You did both.
Kept to the feel of Jen Kingwell and added your own touch. Your applique choice was perfect.
True to the pattern name Pick a Petal. Way to go!!! HelenW
