I love the look of your solids. It really sharpens the block patterns.

I am so very grateful for this month's simpler block. I enjoyed cutting strips from my fun stash of low volume prints. All 20 complete, even though photo is cut off. Now I can go back and get to work on last month's blocks. I have only bundled combinations of fabrics so far. These will most likely go into a month 13, 14.... But I did finish up a few other projects this month!

I’m using fabric from my stash for the log cabin blocks. In my mind’s eye, I’m looking for subtle textures on white or nearly white fabric. The back side of some fabric works really well.

Here are 4 of my log cabin blocks for this month. I went through my stash and cut 1 1/2” WOF strips. Instead of chopping them up into all the different lengths for the logs, I left them in long strips, added strips to the 2 1/2” square, and trimmed off the excess length. Saves time and is no problem. Like Barbara B., I sewed two at a time. They are so pretty!

Decided to machine stitch the log cabin block. Great decision, cut 1 day, sewn the next. Now to catch up on the 5 month 3 blocks left to do. Hoping to get them done while on a road trip with some friends to see the Rajah quilt in a Century of Quilts Exhibition.

I like the accent of the “darker” fabric in there. I think I will do the same as it adds interest

Thanks Janet. I was a bit worried about it and the white but thought by the time the embroidery and appliqué get finished it will be ok. If I’m still worried about the white I could lightly tea die it.

Your white and darker fabrics add nice spark. Keep them.

I sewed the center section together and the outer sets with half circle fans. I made 16 log cabins and will wait to decide what to do with the corners of the log cabin sections until after I do the applique/embroidery. I really want to incorporate the meadow fabric. Thank you, Barbara for all the blog information and Facebook live recordings. Thank you to all the forum posters. I nearly gave up on month 3!

For month 4, I took applique blocks from another BOM that I decided not to finish, cut them up to yield the most motifs that I could reuse for this project. I also added a separate bird block that was a small project from the threadhouse taster weekend.
I used an alternate block that I invented for month 3 as I found the pattern block too frustrating.

Jeanne, Great idea, Are all your appliqués on other background fabrics already. I was thinking it
would be nice to put the big birds that run into the seam allowance over 2 blocks, to give them
more space, but if they are already prepared on the background, you could not do that. I like
looks of the more realistic appliqués. Also like your variation blocks with the half square triangles.

Helen, The blocks were already on low volume fabrics so I trimmed them down and then added some additional strips where I could. A few things will carry over to an adjacent block.

Machine sewing let me finish my Month 4 blocks in a snap. Here are a few. I’ve included the back of one of my blocks to show how I used the reverse side of some stashed fabrics to make up for a lack of low volume prints.

I often say “you paid for both sides of the fabric, you can use both sides”. Nicely done!

This is as big as my quilt will be. I need 4 more edge pieces and have to figure out the corners. I’m planning on doing some wool applique and a combination of machine quilting and hand quilting. So far I love it!
