All outer fans complete except outer background strips. I will have to be patient and wait for the template. All month 2 cut out and now ready for stitching. This will be the last block using the black line in the lollies fabric

    6 done, 14 to go.
    My month 2 method:
    1. Cut crescents about ½” wider on the outside edge and just outside of the marked edge on the curve.
    2. With a template cut to the seam line, iron the seam allowance under the curved part of the crescent.
    3. Make 9 patch sections according to Barbara’s blog.
    4. Using the templates, mark the placement of the crescent on the 9 patch using disappearing ink marker or chalk.
    5. Using Roxanne’s glue baste or a glue stick (I found the glue stick didn’t hold as well.) Dab just below the placement line. Position the crescent on the 9 patch.
    6. Turn the block over and trim to the crescent line.
    7. Opening out the seam allowance, hold the forward part up as you sew along the ironed crease. Use your finger to make sure both parts are flat ahead of where you are sewing. Hit the dots at the beginning and end of the curve.
    8. Trim to 8 1/2" square

Love your block! I also played with this one…and concluded that I may not be as successful totally machine piecing this one as I was with block 1. I guess I’ll wait for Barbara’s comments next month and continue with the arch border. Thanks for sharing.

Barbara… getting ready to trim the bottom of this block. Am I correct it is 4.25” tall. I don’t want to make a mistake and have to ‘ fix it’. Or.. should I wait and trim after the outside piece is attached. Thanks
in reviewing my picture I should have written 41/4 not 41/2

Wait until the background is sewn on. The unit will be 4.5” x 8.5” unfinished. It will be 4” x 8” when sewn into the quilt.

I tried encircling the centre with the proposed block but it didn't look right. . . .I think I'll save it for the outer border. This block seem to give the quilt a more African look. I believe this block is the one used for the embroidery block, so I'm going to have to give this a lot of thought on what to do next. This baby certainly has a mind of its own.

Monique, Love, love, love your Africa log cabins. It looks fabulous with the center block. I have lots of BOMs that barely
resemble the patterns. All you need to do is find something that you for the next set of borders. HelenW

Monique, I love everything about your piece. Your fabrics are beautiful, and very dramatic. You have done a great job with fabric and design placement.

Monique, your center is totally awesome and with the surrounding blocks you could stop there and have a very dramatic quilt. I love what the black solid does for the scrappy, it gives some sanity to the chaos.

I’m adding another question and want to know if others ran into this… I cut out my outside pieces and was afraid I was a little off grain. As you can see one side when I pressed..I had some extra ,but this made the outside piece lie flat. I have sewed another one..but now I’m wondering if I should cut a rectangle and attach to that for better accuracy?

Not sure I understand the question. If this is a double fan, it should measure 4.5" x 8,5" with seam allowances. If it does, you're fine. Once the rectangles are sewn to each other they will be "mostly" on grain and that's good enough for most of us.

I was worried that my curves were not matching perfectly. I reworked the ends… who will know unless I say something,,!
