Barbara, Thank you for everything you do. Love this quilt more than I thought I could! Question... I want to be sure I have enough of my fabrics to do the outside boarder. How big of a hunk of fabric should we save to make sure we have enough? I won't be doing them like Irene with Paper Pieces EPP. I think you mentioned you would have an alternate method so I am sure that is what I will do. Thank you for providing the background measurements going forward.

Shari, if you are piecing the Diamond borders with the detailed instructions I will provide, one yard of background is plenty.

Irene's instructions are for hand appliqueing the diamonds onto long strips of background--two yards is needed for that. But, she used a stripe to make it look like a picket fence so how the background is cut for her method depends on if a striped background fabric is used. Much more on that in month 10.

I too wonder what size strips should I save for the outside border (not the background) just the colored triangles, I will be machine stitching. Thank you.

The border diamonds can be cut from 6.5" x 4" rectangles BUT that puts ALL 4 EDGES on the bias. I cut the Diamonds the exact size needed for piecing them from 3.125" strips.

There will be detailed instructions for piecing the borders in Month 10.

How did I know what size the Diamonds were since I didn't have the complete instructions when I started? The last page of the Introduction lists the Paper Pieces Diamond templates the designer used to prepare the Diamonds for hand appliqueing to the long border backgrounds Then I looked up the size on the Paper Pieces website.

There won't be any more info on the borders until we get to Month 10.

July 1. Sometimes it goes up the day before. The LIVE will be July 1. I will post the blog Wednesday June 29–not a lot of new instructions for month 7 but you can start to play with fabric choices.

Pam, You can always make up the month 7 pieced block for the corner. The 4 corners are the same cutting and piecing.
I took a screen shot of the picture that was posted several months back. I am working on making all 4 corner blocks
just because it is easier to stream line the process of cutting and stitching. HelenW

Do I have these numbers correct for making the 4 shoo fly blocks?
                      cut 8 -5” squares
                      cut 32 - 2 1/2 colored squares
                      cur 64 background inserts
                      cut 32 -1 1/2 strip set pieces

                        No.
Light Background squares for HST--four 5" squares = 16 Light Fabric squares. Four BLOCKS = 16 5" squares
Colored Fabrics for HST -- 16 2.5" squares. Four BLOCKS = 64 colored squares 2.5"
NOTE: the VIDEO for Month 7 shows how you can cut the same number of 5" squares of colored fabrics as the Background squares, place them right sides together and SEW FIRST on both sides of the drawn diagonal lines

I don't know what you mean by background insert or strip set pieces.

I suggest you cut out one block so you understand what pieces you need for the method you want to make then multiply by four to know what you need for all four ShooFly Blocks.

This is the result of 16 fabrics and 16 background at 5 inches. I then mixed up the combination to get all the shoo fly blocks. I hope this visual helps

Fabulous! Elizabeth, that's a great visual of what I was discussing yesterday in the LIVE broadcast. Thanks for posting this so others who haven't started the ShooFly blocks yet can see the FAST way to make all the HST for ALL four ShooFly blocks.
