Official:size of circle after small houses are sewn
The pattern does not say what size any of these units are, except the Mariner's Compass is 14" finished.
For those of you wanting to know:
THE INNER ROAD IS 2" WIDE SO THE CENTER OF THE QUILT, COMPASS AND INNER ROAD, WILL BE 18" FINISHED.
The empty hole in the center of the ring of Small Houses should be 17.5", INCLUDING seam allowances.
If it is close to that, you will be able to "ease to fit" when you join the center to the small houses at the Inner Ring.

My small house ring is finished. From a head on picture it looks great. BUT the inside part of the ring is quite a bit too big. Should I go in and make larger seams between the houses without trees? It would be difficult to adjust the top of the ring because it would mess up the trees. If I do adjust the seam size on the bottom, will that cause the rest of the quilt not to fit. I may have bitten off a bit more than I'm capable of!Last edited by Judith E.; 04-10-2021, 05:54 PM.

Judith, First try Barbara Blacks method of checking each seam on both sides to see that they are not too narrow. That would cause excess fabric on the finished top. If you have have too much fabric at the bottom to lay flat that means your circle is not 360 degrees at the bottom. The top looks pretty flat which is good. If you align the circle on a ruled mat
you should be able to align a vertical seam of one house, count 8 houses, and check how far past 90 degrees your fabric goes. If it is let just say 3/8 inch that means in 1/4 of the full circle you will need to take larger seams until it is exactly at the 90 degree line on your mat. Like you said, you don't want to take in the top, so make it look like a dart in a blouse, angle it it to nothing as it get near the trees. Do it was a large basting stitch so it is easy to take out if needed. I would do it one quarter at a time. Good luck. HelenWLast edited by Helen W.; 04-11-2021, 12:44 PM.
