COLOR MY WORLD—Getting Excited
The big reveal has happened. I hope you are excited. Our wonderful 2021 Block of the Month starts January 1, 2021. The monthly patterns are FREE to Star Members—this quilt is exclusive to The Quilt Show through 2021.
There will be Live videos, taped Tutorial videos, my monthly blog with tips and tricks and lots more.
Find the Introduction document here:
https://thequiltshow.com/learn/bom/bom-2021
Also, on that page you will find my first video—on Fabric Selection if you want to use your own fabrics.
These photos are of my sample quilt, made from the Kit fabrics available in the Store.

Marti, the patterns are nicely space throughout the year. I made the entire quilt, from washing the fabrics, to sewing on the label, in 8 weeks. Month 1 will probably take 15-20 hours--there are 16 Small Houses to make for the center circle and the learning curve of using freezer paper vs. plain paper. Month 2 is the Mariner's Compass, maybe 5-6 hours. Month 3 is a repeat of Month 1, with 16 more Small Houses. By Summer when the Tall Buildings appear that create the outer circle, it will take 10-12 hours/month. The Skyscrapers come at the end of the year, two//month, so again about 10-12 hours/month.
I think it really is not that time consuming, once you are comfortable with the process. As with any quilt, sewing an accurate 1/4" seam allowance is critical so the circles of houses all fit into the circles of roads and the compass center.

Barbra,
1. is add a 1/4 ruler needed and if yes what length, please.
2. I note the freezer paper sheets ay ink-jet printer and I have laser, I usually use Carol Doak foundation paper, with this project would this way still work.

2. Yes, you can do regular foundation paper piecing if you prefer it to the freezer paper method.I am a new convert to the freezer paper method, it saves time and lots of paper. But you might not be able to safely print it with a laser printer. The package says Inkjet printer.
Here’s a thought: find a TQS friend who wants to make it too who has an inkjet printer. You can support each other and she can print your pages, only a couple each month, in exchange for an ink cartridge. You both win.

There are two Windham background fabrics. One is canvas and the other may be quilting cotton. Of course I bought canvas not realizing there were choices. Never worked with canvas, but I thought it might work with the shot cottons. It’s a looser weave like the shot cotton. What Art History 101 fabric is in the “sold out” kits?
