    Fabric for receiving blankets

After Alex's grand baby was born she showed how she made receiving blankets to wrap the baby. I remember her talking about a certain very soft fabric she used. Could someone please tell me what fabric she used?

Artmomma, she used cotton voile, which I'm finding harder than the dickens to find. I hope someone comes up with a source. The Stitchin' Post in Sister, OR had some, along with Valorie Wells flannel, but they are out of the voile. Any help out there in the USA?

I guess we could substitute Liberty of London cotton, but it's $32.00 a yard, and a bit more than a yard is needed for 40 square inches.

This link has lots, but it looks like they may not do International.

Thank you for your reply. I had a brain freeze earlier and could not find the info and then found the show where she told about making the blankets. $32 a yard is very pricey. My sis-in-law just found out she will have two grand babies born at the end of the year! Let the search begin for voille!

Ah, Margo - BIG hug. Being a newby I failed to post this response before noticing your link. That is perfect. Very good prices also. Fortunately the material I want only needs to be shipped to Arkansas!

The Stitchin' Post does have some and it's $18.25 a yard. I misunderstood, they just didn't have the color I initially wanted.

fabric.com is misleading for Valori Wells voile...most are not in stock, can't be back-ordered, and no shipping date known.

OOPs. And if it's voile you want, the same place supplies that to at a reasonable price: http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/se...keywords=voile

Did she say voile or lawn? I'll have to go back and look.

Lol, Sewdreamy, the fabric we are looking for is voile. I looked at the lawn fabric and wondered if that was another name for voile. I am glad you posted again. Thanks. ;-)

   So I did go back and watch it just now and of course she said voile as you said. Just a little batty here. But it's all fun.

I looked at fabric.com for the voile too. I am going to make an adult sized one for my son. He has always liked soft blankets. I was able to find some voile in a camo print. I will use some deer print flannel for the top. He will love it for a summer coverlet. He is 6 ft. tall, and over 40. Maybe he will forgive me for using his favorite blanket as batting in potholders years ago.

What a fun idea! I can't wait to see how the baby ones turn out. Adult receiving blankies may be the next great thing! Camo voile sounds like something my grand daughter would adore.

I would not pay that much money for receiving bkankets! Has anyone tried a knit fabric? It's not 100% cotton, but more reasonably priced. Babies go through lots of blankets.

I'm right there with you Diane, except maybe for a very special couple of blankets for a very special (to you) baby. For everyday though, making them with double sided flannels that you can get for about five dollars a yard seems about right to me. That means they would run under about $8 per blanket. One could add a little light machine embroidery in one corner.
