Define "jelly rolls" & all the other quilt 'desserts'

Does anyone know where I can find the definition of "jelly rolls", "layer cakes", etc., that are so frequently seen now in quilt or wall-hanging directions? I don't know what to estimate when the directions say this and sometimes I don't want to buy new fabric. I have an extensive 'stash', having inherited both my mother's stash and my DH's mother's stash. It seems like such a waste to just let it set there, unused & buying new fabrics for a small (or even large) project.
    Thanks, everyone!

You might enjoy reading Judi's blog, too! She is in Romania where she delivered quilts and school supplies and food to orphans!

Well I enjoyed reading Judi's blog. I have been to Romania a few times now and each time I am so sad at the poverty that the people are in. But the overwhelming thing is how generous the people are. Last time I was there in May this year I was unfortunate enough to put my back out (probably the 5 1/2 hour bus ride from Bucharest to Sibiu on really bad roads). A young man in one of the choirs I was working with took me to a doctor (a Romanian Orthodox Nun!) who gave me a shot for the pain and suggested that I go to a masseur (who turned out to be blind!) The young man refused to take money for the taxi ride, the doctor (who he insisted treated me for free) and would have paid for the masseur too but I put my foot down. My husband is going to Romania on tuesday and having watched one of Judi's blogs I think now that I will make a quilt for my young friend.

What a wonderful thing Judi and her team are doing!

          Thanks Margo for the link.

          Rita.
