Hello Barbara, excellent information in today’s month two Live. Thank you for sharing!
Quick question: When is the vellum to be removed from completed sections?terri s.
Quilting is my daily fiber therapy!

Great question, Terri. Becky removes the paper AFTER sewing all the center medallion parts together. Her videos for Month 3 will cover that in detail.
I prefer to remove the paper before sewing the sections together. My Month 3 LIVE and BLOG will explain that in detail.
For MONTH 2--the paper STAYS ON until next Month and ONLY THE ANGLED INNER EDGES are trimmed--I sure hope both Becky and I made that clear!
-
Watched Becky's video again and noticed it appears that some of her strips are pieced, not whole pieces of fabric (possibly #5, #6...)
Before I cut my pieces, should I expect to piece strips to fit or is the fabric long/wide enough to cut without piecing?

Thanks, Barbara, for today’s live show. A few questions that got lost in the technical glitch…(1) A few times you mentioned newsprint. Would this work for February’s blocks? I really did not enjoy working with vellum. (2) Rather than backstitching at start and end, would the tieoff function on my machine work?
FYI for March, I use transparencies all the time with my wool appliqué for placing pieces. You can run them through the printer and it works great. Before I discovered transparencies, I would cut up ziplock bags and draw the pattern with a Sharpie. When I have a larger pattern, I use cellophane (buy on the roll where you find wrapping paper) and use a Sharpie to draw out the pattern. Works great and is inexpensive.

Newsprint could work for the corners. It is lighter than freezer paper. Try it to see how you like it.
The tie off function on most machines is similar to a backstitch. Try it on a small piece of paper to see if it holds when you tear off the paper.
Thanks for the suggestion about transparencies. Some people may find that easy to find at an office supply store perhaps.
I am eager to see what you do this year.

I'm using the fold-back method we learned in Color my World.... I find it successful I do leave my paper attached for now. I like using my 10 foot to slide along the folded edge. Also. I added a center mark to place the hst so it would be center. Having fun!Elizabeth Anderson

This is a question for those who are reducing the pattern. Wondering if freezer paper method would work instead of vellum. It may be awhile before I get to it as my DIL just asked me to make a baby gift for a friend. Did get pattern downloaded and reduced to 75% on plain paper.

The primary difference with the freezer paper method is the need to keep the fabric glued to the paper until the pattern is completely finished. It took a good bit to glue. You don’t want the fabrics coming off before the corner is done.
And it is then VERY IMPORTANT to use a pencil to draw a line on the fabric at the outside edge of the paper BEFORE removing the paper. This will be explained more in month 3.
-
Thank you. I’ve got the vellum so will just go ahead and use it.
-
Hi Barbara. I had printed this out on freezer paper as I do really like this method. But as you suggested vellum I have now done this. However, although my 1" squares are correct on both and the joins correct the freezer paper is 3/8 inch bigger. I have no idea why.
So what length should the very top and left side lines be including the seam allowance? Mine is 16" for both on the vellum and 16 1/2 on the freezer paper.

I’m reducing by 50% with the freezer paper method that Barbara teaches and it works great. I did the Color My World BOM a few years ago reduced to 60% the same way.Originally posted by Bjturner48 View PostThis is a question for those who are reducing the pattern. I must have done something wrong. I’m cutting my Leafy Scroll for block 2 - second corner and it doesn’t appear that I’m going to have sufficient fabric for corners 3 + 4.

We just became aware of this. We will have more information soon.
From the fat quarter you can cut 4, cutting lengthwise. It would take 2 fat quarters to provide all 8 pieces needed.
My suggestion: either substitute a white you have in your stash to keep all 8 the same OR use two fat quarters that are similar to make the 4 corners.
Look for more information to come.Last edited by Barbara B.; 02-03-2026, 02:04 PM.

I also have not enough fabric for the month 2 leafy scroll piece 3 & 4 and gray blue with dots piece 5 & 6 and granny's apron blue pieces 7 & 8. I would rather not piece all these sections. I don't have a stash to replace all three fabrics in suitable colors.

I am today, Monday, watching the video. I loved the jewel tones in the center you had pinned up. I assume these are from your stash. Purple is not my heart's favorite color but it really does make your center snap.

There is enough of Gray Blue with Dots and Granny’s Apron Blue for those pieces, although you do have to piece a couple of them. I just got the Print Kit and don't think the seams will show when the quilt is done.Originally posted by [email protected] View PostI also have not enough fabric for the month 2 leafy scroll piece 3 & 4 and gray blue with dots piece 5 & 6 and granny's apron blue pieces 7 & 8.
