    Apliquick scissors

    Good Morning Appliquers,
I am attempting an appliqué project and hope the Apliquick scissors will help with the cutting.
Does this product actually make a difference in your work when cutting appliqué shapes. Are they worth buying?
TQS staff in the online store say the larger ( 3 finger hole) scissors outsell the small ( two finger hole) scissors by a wide margin.
I will be cutting small as well as larger appliqué shapes. I'm looking for advice as to which model of scissor to buy.
I am also left handed. Do they work for lefties? Apliquick does not make a left handed model.
Also, do I really need to buy the Apliquick tweezers? Are they actually more effective than ordinary tweezers?
    Advice please.
    Quiltingly yours,

Ok, here is my two cents, hehe.

I applique a LOT! If you go to my profile and look at pictures, you will see 2 quilts, one an iris quilt I made about 15 years ago and a hummingbird quilt, it has a beige background. Both of these were appliqued and I currently have 2 more that I haven't posted. I use VERY sharp small KAI scissors, and I also have a small Gingher pair that I use. I feel the important part is very sharp. The KAI scissors was in a set that I actually won when at a TQS taping several years ago and I LOVE them. I use the small scissors even for large pieces so I can be accurate. I know the kind you are looking at has serrated edges, but I am sure they work fine too. Before you purchase them, try the scissors you have and see if they work for you.

Ok, I also just use regular tweezers.

As far as left handed, I can't help you there. Ok, now I also do David Taylor method of preparing my applique. I trace the pattern onto freezer paper and cut that out then iron it onto the back side of the fabric, cut around a scant 1/4, clip where needed. I then use spray starch into a small jar and let it liquify and add a little water and paint on the selvage of the piece with the starch and iron it over. I leave the freezer paper in until I am ready to apply it to the quilt. I also use Roxanne's Glue Baste It to keep them on the quilt.

    Hope this helps.

I bought the small appliquik scissors some time ago and at first really liked them but they did not stay sharp for long. I also have the Kai small scissors and they work wonderfully for me.

I have both styles of the Appliquik scissors and am left handed. Not comfortable to use for me and they stay in the drawer. I love the other products, though. The tweezers are an easier to use size than regular tweezers, which I drop a lot! I much prefer the Karen Kaye Buckley scissors. They are sharp and stay that way. They have a cushioned handle and I can do a lot of cutting without getting hand fatigued. They are serrated as well and hold onto your fabric well. I have 3 sizes. No idea why. LOL I use the small ones the most. Good control cutting out appliqué.

As a lefty this is my humble opinion. Go to a quilt shop and try the Karen Buckley scissors.
Report back on what you decide!
