As has been mentioned once or twice around here, our very own Ricky Tims won Best of Show at this year's Houston International Quilt Festival for his quilt, The Visitation. The quilt is quite the sight to see on its own, but knowing the story behind it gives it a personal connection that will help you to appreciate it on a deeper level. Our friends at BERNINA interviewed Ricky on the floor of Houston to get that story, take a look at his career in quilting, and more.
We are thrilled to share some exciting news—and invite you to be part of it! Ricky Tims’ quilt The Visitation has been selected by the committee of The Quilt Mural Project in Paducah, KY to become one of the larger-than-life murals on the city’s iconic floodwall. These extraordinary quilt murals are typically funded by a single benefactor or corporate sponsor. But this time, the honor has been given to all of us—the worldwide quilting community! Learn more about this amazing project and how you can contribute today!
You've now seen Ricky's Houston International Quilt Festival 2025 Best of Show winner, The Visitation. Now, learn the full story behind this outstanding quilt from Ricky himself as he takes you on the journey he went on to make it, from inspiration to creation.
On Monday, Alex Anderson and Bob Ruggiero of Quilts, Inc. announced the winners of the 2025 Houston International Quilt Festival, including The Quilt Show's Ricky Tims winning Best of Show. During the video presentation, there was error when announcing Pat Durbin's First Place win in the Naturescape category. While the winner was correct, Pat's quilt Glimpse Into the Forest, the wrong quilt was shown. This has been amended and we'd to again present the winners of the 2025 Houston International Quilt Festival (for those who haven't seen it, or would like to watch it again).
