Suggestion for the new Quilt Gallery
I think it would be great to have the ability to view the quilts in the gallery by date from newest to oldest in a slideshow fashion, such that each thumbnail size photo doesn't have to be opened manually to see an enlarged view. Now, if a photo in the gallery is opened, navigating new and previous seems to be within only the member's photo album rather than the overall gallery. Hopefully, this makes sense.

Hi Kathy, when you get a chance, could you check on something else related to the gallery? I've noticed that the section listing awards the quilt has won no longer appears. Can it be resurrected? Thanks!Originally posted by "Tribblemom" post=123865I see what you mean and I'll check on whether that is something that can be changed. When I zoom in on a quilt, there are buttons to go forward and back, but they aren't active.

And we still have no way of posting a photo to the BOM show and tell - for any of the years. There seem to be only two options for posting a quilt, either Zoom Quilt or Quilt Gallery. We need to be able to post a quilt to any of the Show and Tell categories as well as the BOM. Maybe this is already being worked on in which case, thank you in anticipation.

There is now a group for the 2014 BOM - all the old photos are there, by month and you can upload new photos, too! The group is open to anyone, just join and start chatting and uploading photos.
Here is a quick link to get you there: www.thequiltshow.com/community/groups/viewgroup/100007-2014-tqs-bom

So, is the show and tell feature for these quilts going away? Should we always be putting them in group photo albums now? One disadvantage of the photo albums, as far as I can see, is that you can't see who posted the photo. In the old show and tell, that information was a separate field that was automatically filled in. Now I guess we have to type it into the description, if we are able to update the description. That has been a problem.
I'll say again that it would be really nice to have a separate awards field in the quilt gallery like we had before. This field needs to allow for multiple entries. It would be nice if it was like the old one, so you had space for multiple awards and each award had separate fields like type (local, national, international), year, show and category. I just think this is an important part of the quilt and should be highlighted.

Nancy, I agree! I think the award information is a very important part of the quilt information. If it has to be listed in the description, that limits how much description can be included, especially if a quilt has won several awards. We should be celebrating those who win awards—at whatever level—so it should be a separate part of the quilt information, with separate fields for the type of award.Originally posted by "rehak" post=124441I'll say again that it would be really nice to have a separate awards field in the quilt gallery like we had before. In addition to the quilt gallery, I really do believe that someone should revisit the Show and Tell feature of the older system and try to bring it back: it was efficient, all the information we wanted and needed could be entered; it was easy to browse through and see who was saying what about someone's entry. What we have now with the Group Community photo album is sloppy, inelegant, does not have the basic information we would look for; to look at someone's show and tell entry without being able to read their comment about how they came about making the piece or any other comment the author wants to make, reduces show and tell to a bunch of quite irrelevant pictures.

Ok, I'll let Bob know you want the Award Category added in the Gallery.
I just went into the 2014 BOM Group and added a test photo for the December Album. After you upload the photo, you can edit the description box below the photo. It does not have the "category" features as in the Quilt Gallery section, but you can type in any info you want below the photo. Below that is an area for anyone to add comments as well.
The Group also allows discussions, not just photos and albums. When you click on a group, the wall is the default screen where you will see the most recent activity. Click on DISCUSSIONS to see various topics. Go take a look and let me know what you think.
Here's a quick link to the 2014 BOM Group: http://thequiltshow.com/community/groups/viewgroup/100007-2014-tqs-bom
thanks,
Kathy

Oh my, I just took a look at the "Show and Tell" section... you are right, no identifiers, comments, etc. ... not very useful.
I didn't participate in the old forum and website other than to watch shows and read the Daily Blog, so I don't know what the Show and Tell used to look like. I think the new Group section under TQS Community will provide the features you are looking for. Anyone can add a Group, for example for an exchange or contest. Once you get the hang of it, I'm sure you will have fun there.

I know change is necessary at times, but I must say the old site was much easier to use. I liked being able to go into Show and Tell get to each category easily. They were all in one place. To tell you the truth, having been a TQS member since the beginning, I now spent much less time on the site. Not worth the frustration. Sort of like getting around to Facebook. I read the forum, and maybe the Daily Blog, and that's all. Most of the time I use my android tablet and the feature that lets me enlarge a page no longer works. This was nice when I wanted to see something close up, such as a quilt.
