    Show 1102 - Luke Haynes

    Wowie, that was fun!

Not so much a 'throw the rule book out of the window', as 'You mean there is a rulebook?'

At some point I am going to have to try a 'tear loose and go caveman' for at least one quilt.....

I kept thinking about that red shirt.....

I didn't know that Goodwill sells clothing by the pound. Here in southern California, I paid at least 5.00 for a shirt from the thrift store to cut up for fabric.

Very thought provoking show! As he said, he is an artist who works in cloth.

Kathy, in Oregon, we have what is called the 'bins.' It is where Goodwill goods that don't sell at the stores go. I have not been but my MIL has and everything is sold by weight. She buys glassware by the pound and makes yard art. I would imagine that California has them too. My MIL wears gloves like what a dentist wears because she says most everything is dirty. I would definately wash whatever you bought before using it.

Jojo, I wonder if there's a way to find out where they have a bin center in so cal? I bet I could go to their website! it's probably no where near me! Good idea, though. I have borrowed a book from our guild library a couple of times on using recycled shirts in quilts- can't remember the author but she is famous for making scrap quilts.

Oh, that's her- Bonnie Hunter! i really liked her books on using thrift store shirts and her website is jammed with good stuff!

I did check out the Goodwill website, the nearest "outlet store" as they call their bulk store is about 300 miles from me. Oh well.
I think my stash will provide me with enough fabric to do anything I want for the rest of my life .

Kathy, you beat me to it. I just heard back from my MIL and yes, they are called 'outlet stores.' I personally don't think I could handle the stores based on what my MIL has told me. I have allergies and the dust and dirt would probably cause me some severe breathing issues. She did say that if you ever do go, to be careful because she has gotten cut on occassion because fabric, metal, and glass can and is all mixed together. She loves it and goes at least once a week.

Happy anniversary--and you're still young! We just celebrated our anniversary recently too (35 years--maybe it's time to pull out old pictures... ).

Back to Luke, I love the way his head works. In the slide show for today, the Ben Franklin quilt did not do a thing for me. It looked like old Ben was melting. Then to see it on a bed and it looked like he was sitting on the edge of the bed. What a hoot!!! I am getting on the I love Luke band wagon. His -That's just the way I do it- attitude thrills me. He makes me want to loosen up a bit on my goal of perfection. His attitude is so freeing. Thanks TQS for sharing him with us. Betty Ann
