I know that I sent this to a few of you in an E-maik but I thought I would post it. This way if I don't have your E-mail address you could still benefit from the info. This was sent out to teachers in the Pioneer School District NY. The article was written by some one who works at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline, in Sanjose, CA. There they deliver about 4 million gallons of gas in a 24 hour period through the pipeline. One day desiel, one day jet fuel, one day gas. They have 34 storage tanks, that can hold a total of 16,800,000 gallons. Obviously I am paraphrasing most of this article if you would like the article as it was sent to me feel free to E-mail me at mailto:[email protected] .
1. only buy or fill you tank early in the morning when the ground is cold. Remember service stations keep their storage tanks below ground the colder the ground the more dense the gas. When it gets warm gas expands. Meaning when your gallon is not actually a gallon.
2. don't fill your talk by squeezing the nozzle so that it comes out fast. this promotes air/vapor return. All hoses at the pump have vapor return, so your gas is being sucked back to the storage tank meaning you are getting less for your money.
3. FILL YOUR TANK WHEN IT IS HALF FULL. The more gas you have in your tank the less air you have occupying it. Gas evaporates faster then you think. Gas storage tanks have a floating roof that minizes this from happening.
4. NEVER get gas when the station is recieving gas from the fuel truck. The gas is being stirred up at this time and you might pick up the dirt and sediment that has settled in the bottom of the tanks.
Later I will post more of this article about oil companies but I don't have the time right now. I just wanted to post this for those of you interested. Again if you want the article feel free to E-mail me

The WOW coupon site is updated when the coupons are sent to the host site. Mine seems to be updated everyday on the 'coupon bar' on my 'puter.
The other site...(MommySavesBig) is slow in updating. It use to be pretty reliable.
Also many times in order to receive coupons the company will ask for an e-mail address. I keep a free e-mail addy to receive these coupons. A hotmail or google account works for this purpose. By doing this, it keeps the junk mail down in my regular account.
Another tidbit...sometimes a site will 'know' how many coupns you have printed and will not allow anymore until new coupons are issues.

Enjoy your trip tagging along with your husband, Eileen. Recently I don't have to be home for kids in school so I get to go places when my husband earns a free airplane ticket. There's a money saving tip. Have a husband like mine who is constantly travelling for work!

This is from the same article that I mentioned i my last post.
WHERE TO BUY U.S. GAS!
Did you know that the Saudi s are boycotting American goods? Maybe we should do the same for their gas? Just buy gas from companies who don't import it.
COMPANIES THAT IMPORT GAS:
Shell---------------205,742,000barrels
Chevron/Texaco---144,332,000barrels
Exxon/ Mobil---------130,082,000barrels
Marathon/Speedway---117,740,000barrels
Amoco-------------------62,231,000barrels
Citgo's gas is from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans. Why would anyone get their gas from Citgo if they knew this?
COMPANIES THAT DO NOT IMPORT MIDDLE EASTERN OIL:
Sunoco-----0
Conoco-----0
Sinclair------0
BP/Phillips--0
Hess---------0
ARCO--------0
If you go to Sunoco.com, you will get a list of the station location nearest to you.
All of this information is available from the Dept. of Energy, and is each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.Lyndhurst, Ohio USA - East Side Suburb of Cleveland, Ohio

Um....I just checked http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/saudigas.asp
for this story.
Not that I don't believe we should look for alternative energy sources or become energy independent.

Thank you for correcting me. I really hate it when I am given inaccurate info. I should know that just because it comes from a teaching association that doesn't mean it is correct. ops: For the record I have passed on the sight you have listed. I feel that teachers at least should be able to quote thing accurately even if they are only human. I knew that the info was a little out dated but I didn't think it was that far out dated. I just wish I was better at looking things up on the computer. Everything I look for seems to not exist or can be sexually explicit in nature. Don't ask me how but even the most innocent word can bring up the wrong subject. I understand what you are saying. If you goggle Urban Legends...there is more of this kind of stuff to be found.
You can also just goggle the question...such as 'Saudi boycotting American goods? and several sources come up, however when actually looking at the sites you realize they are message forums.
The Internet is full of information and misinformation or disinformation.
Wouldn't it be great if America once again would put its collective intelligence and ingenuity together to find a solution for our power problems? I am so tired of inaction of those who have been elected to office to lead us. This is not a 'new' problem but one that slapped us back in the 70's. You would have thought it would have been some type of wake up call.
But it comes down to each individual doing his/her part and teaching our children the same.
Having added up my savings from grocery, gas, electric we decided to send a donation to The Salvation Army to help with the flooding in the mid-west. My problems are nothing like those of our neighbors in the mid-west.

Last night on the news, they were talking about how Americans drove 4 BILLION miles less in April 2008 than they did in April 2007. Also, the Chinese have raised their gas prices to slow consumption. Gee, I wonder what OPEC will have to say about that???????????????????

Is anyone watching "Greensburg"? It is about the community of Greensburg Kansas which was destroyed in 2007 by a tornado.
The town is trying to build a 'green community'. I am interesting in watching this town grow.
I hope to pick up ideas.
This summer we are going to spend time insulating our house. Making sure we have the right amount of insulation, re-caulking the doors and windows. Also insulating those electrical outlets especially on the outside walls.
We have been eating at home more (saves gas and food)...and have noticed the difference. Not only in our bank account but our waist lines!!! One of the more difficult challenges has been menu planning. Using 'in season' and on special offers. I know this is not a new concept...because my mother and grandmother did the same things. Leftovers are lunch the next day.
My next conquest will be canning. My gal pal is going to help me...she cans EVERY thing. I really want to can and not freeze stuff.
Happy Savings

I haven't used the dryer in a couple of months now and our electric bill came Friday. Even though we had to use the air conditioner a half dozen times, our bill went down twenty dollars. So I think it's helping. That's about ten dollars a month.
Yesterday my husband and I were on the interstate. We were doing sixty in our little hybrid. Everyone passed us as if we were standing still. They had to be doing at least seventy to seventy five. Even people in the huge cars and trucks. Guess they haven't heard that speeding wastes fuel.

My sisters and I usually combine errands to save fuel. Especially during holidays when we routinely congregate at Mom's house for the celebrations. For the number of people there, we each bring a dish and the meet is usually grilled in the yard to cut down on the heat in the house. This usually leads to a cooler house, especially in this Row-House town.

On my way back to our daughter's house in Athens, GA from Monroe, NC, I was listening to a radio program with a man named Dave Ramsey, who is a financial advisor who helps people get out of debt. We don't have any--no mortgage payment, no car payment, and our credit card gets paid off every single month, never running a balance on it, and we love it this way. If we can't pay cash, we find a way to do without it until we can. You can google his name and find out whatever he suggests to help with saving money and getting out of debt, we had never heard of him and just did it on our own.

I had the speed fight with my dh the other day. I was driving on the interstate and set the cruise at 70 - which is the local speed limit. We got passed a few times and he started griping that I needed to speed up and quit driving like a slow poke! He seems to think if anyone is not driving at least 5-10 mph above the speed limit they are somehow a hazard to the other "normal" drivers. I told him that when I am driving I am trying to save us some gas, so get used to it buster! I also tried using the recirculate feature in my car instead of running the air conditioner full time, but in my car the recirculater is connected to the compresser, so whenever you turn it on it AUTOMATICALLY runs the air conditioner, even if the air conditioner is on supposed to be off - GRRRRR! So I just leave the regular air on till its cool, then turn it off for a while, and then back on...
Here is an air conditioner tidbit some of you may not know though, and it is true and scientifically documented. If you are on the highway at speeds over 55 mph it is actually MORE fuel efficient to roll up your windows and run the air than to run with the windows down. The windows down causes excess drag on the vehicle and lowers fuel efficiency at high speeds. This does NOT apply to lower speed travel though, so as a rule if you are slower than 55 get those windows down and turn off the AC, but if you are faster enjoy it!
