    Janome 6600

Hello everyone - I've got the Janome 6600 - and just wanted to pick a few brains on piecing! Which foot do you find works best for an accurate 1/4" seam? I like the dual feed foot generally but it is a large foot, and although it is good going over seams it is harder to judge 1/4" with it as it is bulky. Thanks - 8)

I have the 6600 and love it. For piecing, I use the dual feed 1/4" foot and get good results. The dealer threw in this foot with the machine, but you may have to buy it if you didn't get it when you bought the machine. Hope this helps you. Marge

Thanks Marge - I wonder if the foot you mention is one I have already - is it the one with the black lip on the right side? Does it have a letter or number on it? And lastly - do you engage the dual feed thing at the back? Sorry about all the questions - you can tell its a new machine to me!

There are 2 dual feed feet with black lips--the stitch-in-a-ditch foot with the black lip in the center in line with the needle, and the 1/4" foot with the black lip to the right of the needle line. I engage the dual feed lever in the back and move the needle to the right until I get the 1/4" seam I want.

I don't see any numbers or letters on the dual feed feet. But then I just had cataract surgery on one eye and don't see much of anything very clearly!

Thanks Marge - I have got both of those feet, and I didn't realise I should engage the dual feed from the back! I have used it with the acufeed foot (the wide one) - I'll have another look at my machine later! The Janome manual doesn't make it very clear which feet can be used with the dual feed thing- hope your eyesight improves soon - my father in law had the same surgery and it takes a while doesn't it?

I agree the manual doesn't help much with the dual feed system. All the wider feet need to be engaged to work properly. I was fortunate to have a really good saleslady who gave excellent instruction in what the various feet could do. That was so valuable.

There is a 1/4" foot that doesn't use the dual feed system (foot O); but it doesn't have the advantage of the dual feed, and I find that the top fabric moves some.

Thanks Marge - I have found the wider accufoot for piecing on the Janome UK website - I have just ordered it. They are usually pretty good on mail order, so hopefully it will be here soon! The saleslady I dealt with was more of an embroiderer so was intent on demonstrating monograms!

Good luck. The salesperson really does make a great difference.
