    Circular embroidery attachment

Has anyone else used the circular embroidery attachment that can be screwed to the base of a Bernina? It has recently been featured on TQS by Alex. I have not been happy with the results. You choose a size of circle, but as I have sewn, it slips so I have jagged circles instead of round ones. Has anyone else had problems or tips for using it?

I have used it quite a lot with good results. It really depends on keeping the pin in the same place. I reinforced my fabrics with stabilizer, but I think the advice from Alex about using cut away stabilizer and not tear away stabilizer is even better. When you sew let the machine do the work without anything dragging on the item.

I don't have that but could you put a small piece of blue painter's tape on it to hold the slider from moving? It doesn't leave sticky residue and could be moved easily as you go. Just a thought but I haven't actually tried it!

Oh I clicked submit the same time as Norma! Her advice is probably better.

I haven't used it, but if you're having trouble with the pivot point moving, I've heard you can tape it to make it more secure.

I'm pretty cheap, so when I try this technique I'll just use the poorman's method of taping a thumb tack to the bed of the machine to use as the pivot point.

Good suggestions, ladies. Thank you. I tried the blue painters tape to fasten down the entire attachment, thinking if it was tighter against the bed of the machine maybe it wouldn't move, but then the fabric drug on the tape. I will try just taping the part where you choose the size and see if that will work. Also, I was sewing through a quilt sandwich (which didn't seem to be a problem) but there wasn't any stabilizer in it.

I'm with you Nancy. I use a thumb tack (drawing pin in the UK) cover it with a piece of masking tape to stick it to the bed of the machine and after I have placed my fabric over the pin I cover the pin with a piece of cork. It works just fine and saves me about £30-00 which I can spend on fabric.
              Good luck
