    Walking Foot

I have a new 640E and tried my walking foot for the first time. Set the length of the stitch on the longest length and it stiched so teeny that it was almost impossible to take out the stitches. what am I doing wrong????

Dumb question, but have you used a walking foot on a machine before? Is the hook around the needle bar? Is it seated properly? Take a close-up picture & send it to me.

This blog has a good explanation. Scroll down until you see the photos of the walking foot and how it should be attached.

Plus, make sure that the feed dogs are up, ie. in sewing position! Otherwise the fabric wont travel and stitches will be small.

Thanks gals --- I put the darn hook around the needle bar and guess what? It works! I will master this machine yet.

A quick tip on getting your walking foot on easily - move the needle down about 1/4 of an inch using the flywheel, then hold the walking foot so that your thumb is between the hook and the foot itself (the hook rests on your thumb). Put this over the needle bar first, then fit the shank and ta da, you're ready to go (assuming you've got the feed dogs up, something I neglected recently, and something that also results in tiny stitches)

If this is clear as mud, let me know and I'll take a photo of what I'm trying to describe
