Warning message when attaching foot 37D on 820

I just got home with my 820 (adore it). When I attach the 37D patchwork foot, I get the icon on the screen that shows the needle crashing into the presser foot. The entire area above that which shows the needle position turns pink. I have the needle in the center position. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Do you have a straight stitch throat plate on the machine which would not allow zig-zag or other side-to-side stitches?

On my Pfaff, this is what that means -- switch to a zig-zag throat plate.

No - I have the regular throat plate on. Any other foot doesn't give me that message. I know this foot was working on the machine because it was on the machine when used by Libby Lehman at Art Quilt Tahoe (which was where I bought the machine "used" at the end of the class).

Did you tell the machine which foot you have attached? I got that message yesterday after I changed to that foot and I hadn't done that. After I chose 37D in the presser foot selection I did not get that message anymore. Hope that helps.

I have an 830 and I found that before I selected anything or attempted anything that required a C or D foot, I had to put the presser foot on for the machine to "read" and then do my selections. I find that if I've pushed too many soft buttons, I must do a "restart" which is turn the machine off for 10 seconds and then turn it back on with the proper foot already on.

Personally, I find that I must treat the 830 more like a computer than a sewing machine. I used to sew to get relief from my job which required me to problem solve computer/software problems all day long. As I progressed from the original 830 to the 170 to the 630 and now the 830, I find I have to put my techie hat back on. Good thing I'm retired now!

There's an update on the Bernina site that you need to download that corrects that issue. It's under Support/Downloads, and the firmware version is 29.39.00
