Dimension of the 830
I'm asking lots of questions :?: I expected to find the specifications of the 830 easily but this doesn't seem to be the case. :? Exactly how big is the 830 with the embroidery module attached? I've heard 40". Is this correct? How wide is it? How much does it weigh? I have to get some sort of home for it by the 7th. I don't think it can even sit on the top of the Horn cabinet I have for the 630.

I checked out the Kaola (sp?) website for the cabinet. WhooHoo.or is it BooHoo  The price can easily rise to $3000. I don't even want to think of shipping it over here. DH and I are going to do some looking around for a more economical solution.

Just get a counter top with a cabinet base, or a sturdy table/desk, and find someone who can cut an opening to fit and make you a wooden surround. You can buy a lift if needed.

Went to IKEA and got 2 5 drawer cabinets and a sturdy desk top for about $250. The 830 sits nicely and securely on this with lots of room for the embroidery module and lots of storage for "stuff." I can sit in front of the needle and have lots of leg room. The only disadvantage is having a flush sewing surface. The sewing table that comes with the 830 is a generous size. Thanks for the info. Really helped me make a decision and have it set up for the delivery.

Libbi I am with you on the cabinet price. I love my new 830 but I could not handle buying both items. For now I am housing it on the top on an eight foot table. This works well as it also houses my laptop & printer. I do like your IKEA idea for extra storage. though & will check it out too. I also have a good chair which I am able to raise high enough to sit properly.
I have a question. Where do you store the embroidery unit? I don't like to keep it attached all the time. I was thinking of buying heavy duty bicycle hooks to hang it but don't want to damage the unit. Any brilliant ideas? The storage box it came in is taking up too much room in my sewing room. :?

I haven't solved the storage problem for the embroidery unit yet. When I detach it from the 830 I just place it on another table I have in the room. I too would hesitate to hang it. My dealer told me to keep it flat. I am going to make a fabric cover for it to keep out the dust. The box is way too big!

Libbi You have that one right. I like your idea of the dust cover & it would be easy to make.
My dealer also told me to keep it flat.
My husband has business in Houston this weekend & asked me if I wanted to go along if you can believe it. What luck with the big Quilt Show going on. I will go to the Bernina booth & see what they suggest. Do you have any other questions that you want answered. I want to know if they are going to get a rolling suitcase for the 830. Little retreats I wouldn't take it but week long ones I would.

Ooo, that sounds like a plan. 8) I do find that when I get my 830 motoring my long table does start to vibrate. So maybe I will start saving: Although, I really like the luxury of having my laptop & printer on the same surface as my machine.
I had a custom cutting table made a number of years ago that was made for my height. It has a formica top & an area with a light box, several drawers, slots for our cutting mats & drop sides. It is also on wheels when you need to move it-that is handy I can tell you! It is awesome & I will never give it up.
