When I upgraded from Version 5 Designer Plus to Version 6 DP, all I did was follow the instructions and it went really smoothly (I have Windows XP). Yes, the upgrade drains the brains out of your Version 5 dongle. And oh my goodness, this software is so powerful! The store I bought it from has a great teacher and she gave 8 weeks of classes (I had to drive 2 hrs. one way to get there). She also has a monthly club, but I don't want to do that drive in the winter.

Repeating myself from another section of the forum: my favorite hint from the Yahoo group was to have the V6 manuals printed. It cost me $72 at Staples to have 900 pages spiral bound in 3 volumes (black and white). They did a wonderful job & I use them almost every day. You can email the PDF's to them to have them printed, but I just went to the LQS for two hours

The V5 lessons/videos on these two sites have helped with the digitizing:

      http://www.artista-adventures.com
      http://www.exnovodesigns.com

I'd love to be able to go on a retreat with a master digitizer. Those eight hour lessons of MontanaGramma's sound wonderful. The LQS here is offering 4 two hour classes in March.
I'm wondering if they will be based on the advanced techniques lessons that Amanda Whitlatch says have been given to dealers.

Thanks Sue. I will definately do this as I find the manuals really helpful. Great Tip!

Question mostly for Sue but of interest for all. I nearly had a heart attack today when I went to Stables to get the PDF V6 file manual printed. When you mentioned $79 for the manual to be printed in 3 volumes I thought WOW! Then I opened the file & realized it was almost 600 pages. The Canadian Staples charges 29 cents b&w or 49 cents colour. way too much. Needless to say my DH & I are looking at other sources-our local university being one. I would really like colour if I could have it as I am such as visual learner.

Bunny, I double sided the pages in black and white for that 79$, Even my dealer said the color is not necessary.

I'm not sure it's worth the extra amount you'd have to pay. A lot of the tutorials (information in the guides, different format) are coming out on various websites in .pdf's (the advanced lessons on exnovodesign.com). Some of the Quick Start guide is duplicated in the User Manual, but I don't know enough to advise one way or the other. I'm sorry there is such a discrepancy in price.

Wow . If it costs that much where you are I am afraid to even ask here. It would be cheaper for me to invest in a ream of paper and a new set of printer cartridges & print it out myself. I did do that with V5. I can print double sided. I cannot deal effectively with the onscreen manual all the time. ops:

Thanks. We are all on the same wave length. My DH said the same thing as Libbi did. We could pay for a set of cartridges & find a printer to print double sided. I can tell you I won't be having them printed if they are going to cost that much. I will wait until I go to the USA in the summer. You guys rock.

We have gone on-line & asked for quotes from 2 companies. I am also going to try asking the printing gals at the school from which I retired last June how much the school would charge me-we are tight.

What I really like is the binding I got. If you can print your own copy, you may want to consider getting a printing company to drill 3 holes (a ream of paper is a lot of manual hole-punching!) for your binder, or or get your papers spiral bound .

Great idea Sue. I will definately follow this up. The binding is huge I know. My one daughter who lives in Toronto is going see if she can get a better quote for me from a printing company there. I will keep you posted.

Oh I forgot to ask, did you bother to get the quilting manual printed? It looked pretty straight forward.

I go to my dealers in 2 weeks for 2 days of classes on V6. I know now that the manual is just a pipe dream at this point.

No I did not print the quilting. So far, quilting on v6 looks much more limited than EQ6 (geez, can you tell I'm a software junkie ?)

I have not worked with it very much.

Thanks Sue, that's what I thought. The cheapest quote I got today was $190. Off hand do you know what price Staples.com charges for colour? My DH is going to NY in April.
