    Fall clothing patterns

The fall clothing patterns are out...have you taken a look? http://butterick.mccall.com/
The styles aren't as bad as they were for this summer (all bags and drapes), but they are clearly intended for the slender and beautiful young women among us. Lots of dresses and their hems haven't been that short since I was a young woman decades ago, ops:
and they are stylish, but quite close fitting.

There are some rather nice tailored jackets, but they seem about the same as they have been for a while. Now I would just dust off last year's clothes and wear them another year if I could, but I am losing weight..so far I've lost 15 pounds, and one size, but I have many pounds to go and hope to achieve that goal. Since I will be moving into retirement shortly, I will have a little time to make a few nice things to wear out, and I guess I can just alter a few things too. I guess I'll have to pull out some older patterns. What do you think about the fall patterns overall? :?:

well...the plus sizes are un-inspiring (that's usually what I check out first). There's a couple cute jackets in the "regular" section. I've been thinking of making a jacket and I actually bought a pattern last year and haven't made it yet. I got all inspired when we were in Santa Fe and I tried on a jacket I really really liked. But it was $1200!!! are you kidding??? it looked like patchy-quilt like fabric (that was pieced together then cut out into the pattern). It was kind of short, had blocky sleeves, and kind of flared out on the bottom. So...maybe a jacket is in my future. Now to figure out what quilting fabric I can bear to turn into a jacket - haha. I used to sew my clothes all the time, but don't seem to have the time anymore. Even being retired, I seem to be busier than ever!

Lori, If it's quilted jackets you want, check out Nancy's Notions. There are several nice patterns there along with books and dvds that use them. In fact, that's kind of what I'm planning...a couple of quilted jackets to wear with slacks. And, being a plus sizer myself, I certainly agree about them being uninspiring.

Betty Jo - I will check that out. Actually what made this particular jacket a little different (IMHO) is it was not quilted. It was just lined, so therefore not the extra bulk of quilting. At my size, I do not need extra quilting on the top half of me!

Lori, if you use an interlining, which is simply another piece of fabric, it does not add bulk and you can still quilt it to add some interest, if you find that fun. But I don't see why a pieced item needs more than just a lining. I'd be interested to see what you make, if you do make something.

I can't say that I am impressed. Guess I won't buy anything new this season either.

Fashion? Style? ...... For me it's easy: If it's large enough but doesn't make me look like a beached whale I'll wear it.

And I have a big event coming up next May. My older son is getting married. It'll be fun (not!) to sort out something suitable to wear.
