Getting bounced from a Jinny Beyer seminar
I attended a quilt show today in Melbourne and was having a lovely time wandering around looking at the lovely quilts, buying fabric and gadgets when i walked past some makeshift seminar rooms. lots of people standing outside looking in so i stopped to have a look too. two of these rooms had many standing around outside but the third only had a couple of people looking in. So down i go and look in and i see Jinny Beyer giving her lecture on her colour theory that she did on the TQS I was very excited to see her in person. Then this lovely lady from inside comes down to me and tells me that I can't stand there because people had paid to get into this seminar. I was so embarrassed
ops:
ops: i thought it was free like the other seminars. this is the first time i have ever been bounced from a place before and thought as i was walking away that if it did have to happen then i am more than pleased that it was Jinny Beyer's bouncer who did it, lol.

Yes Ritzy it would be too funny if people started saying oh no here come some quilters. Lorchen the bouncer was a very sweet lady who apoligised profusely for having to move me on, so no thigh high boots or whips, she actually said that some of the patrons complained because they had paid i can understand that i suppose. There was no door that was the problem the rooms were made from curtains or something, they should have had a sign up though saying it was a paid seminar because it was quite alright to look in on the other seminars. not to worry I got to see Jinny in person and i was chuffed

A funny thing happened to me at work, not quilting, but I hope you find it funny too!!! I was teaching a history class to yr 7 (11 year olds) they were studying how the Bible came to be written. They had taken turns to read the brief description and I was explaining some of the more tricky words. There was one sentence which described how some texts were found in caves in jars, I asked the students if they knew what they were called. No one knew, so I decided to do a game of charades to get the name. So, they got the first word - The, then I thought that Dead would be a problem, so I said 3rd word = big water and they got sea. Next, I said fourth words was like Rolls only longer, one lad put up his hand and said Baquette! I roared with laughter, having not heard of The Dead Sea Baguettes, the students didn't know what I was laughing at until I explained that I mean Scrolls!!!!
Made my day, and I gave the lad some merit points for giving us a good laugh!!!!
   (Ps, don't know if I spelt Baguette right, but meant long French stick of bread!)

Lynn, I come across those baguettes regularly in my job, and also the "singergog", "Martin Loser", and "Noah's arch that flooded till a bird sorted it all out"........ I love supporting in RE. It's difficult to keep a straight face when those gems come up.

Lynn & Lorchen, that's so funny! My church pastor many years ago questioned some elementary Sunday school kids to see if they could answer some Biblical questions. He asked one child if he knew what Sodom and Gomorrah were--the child answered that they were brother and sister! I actually did get to see an exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls at San Diego, CA, and it was an amazing experience! Judy in Torrance

Judy, you have reminded me: One of the RE teachers showed me a piece of work a couple of years ago. It mentioned "Saddam and Gommorah".
When I'm supporting a special needs child in RE lessons the teachers often like to use me as an example for a Christian who is not Catholic or Anglican, because I'm a - unusual for the UK - Lutheran Protestant (thanks to my German upbringing). My surname is Nunn, so I got asked by a little girl after the lesson: "Miss, are all Protesters Nuns?" As you can imagine I had problems keeping a straight face and the RE teacher was still laughing hours later when we passed in a corridor. For her I will now always be the 'protesting nun'.

Lorchen,
That's a great story! I used to help with CCD(RE)but had a mother decide that she could just walk in and out of the room at will. When I gestured(nicely, I was in church)for her to wait, she went up one side of me and down the other. I figured I wasn't cut out to have to stand for that kind of treatment.
Jenny, at least you got to see her in person!! Most of us haven't. I went to her shop in Virginia and darn! She was out of town that day.
