I have to say for right now anyway I am making due with a pair of Fiskers that I bought when I first started sewing. I also have a Fiskers 45 mm rotary cutter and an Olfa 22 mm rotary cutter. I might just have to try that padlock trick. I am always finding my scissors having been used to cut paper or whatever  Once I came in and found my BIL using my rotary cutter to trim a cd label DIRECTLY ON MY TABLE, no mat!!! I could have killed him. Dh found that the rotary cutter was great for cutting out raffle tickets but I give him credit - he went and bought a new blade for me and keeps that other one set aside just for tickets. He also found that Fiskers made a perferating blade too, so now he can make custom tear off tickets too. From the edge of Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood

My Elan 4" scissors for applique are my best friend. They have a serrated-edge blades. Great to stop fabric from fraying.
My other pair are my Gingher dressmakers...left-handed just for me.
I remember when I bought them; the gal at the store said she didn't know why these were left-handed since she didn't know any left-handed folks. I told her it was a shame...because left-handed folks are in their right minds!!! LOL

I just purchased 3 DOVO scissors. I havn't tried them out yet, but was told how wonderful they are. I was also told that gingers sold in quilt shops are of better quality than ones sold at large craft/sewing stores. Does anyone know if this is true? From the edge of Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood

I had to chuckle--I cut the skin off my middle knuckle cutting hair!Originally posted by fiberwomanI still have a couple of pair of Dovo (gold) scissors from my hair cutting days; they are the best....cut like butter - even knuckles - ask me how I know.

Speaking of scizzors, my SIL bought one of those sharpeners that JoAnns sells for about $10 and she says it works great. Instead of paying $7 per pair each time with the sharpening guy, that might be an option for some. Just a thought!

Yep, and I was working in a hospital lab at the time and had to cover it with a finger cot. You guess what the comments were that I had to listen to. LOLOriginally posted by fiberwomanLOL......exactly what I did, Ritzy. I had to splint it because it would keep breaking open if I didn't .......sure got some funny comments with that finger sticking out so prominantly.

I have and am satisfied with several pairs of Gingher scissors, but a couple of years ago, I purchased at a quilt show a pair of Kai scissors. They have blades only a couple (4 - 5?) inches long and are EXCELLENT - very sharp and cut to the point.
I would not hesitate to buy that brand again.

Hi, does anyone know a good pair of scissors for arthritic hands? I will be going to Florida to care for my mom and dad to give my sister a break, and I was thinking of bringing some applique pieces for mom to cut out then we will have a quilt we made together! she has dementia, but loves to help me do things, I would just like to get some that will be easy on her hands. Thanks
Joan
