Can we purchase just a second kit with fabric and no pattern (since got pattern with the first kit)?

I would like to start summer splash, but I am still waiting on an answer to my question:

I purchased Summer Splash in the Spice Color. Gorgeous fabrics! Is there enough fabric to allow for starching? I have much better luck with my piecing if I starch with Best Press.
      Thank you,
      A friend from Maryland,
      Karla

Karla, there is ample fabric in the kit. Although starching should not affect how much fabric you will use. Maybe I am not following your question and if that's the case, I apologize. Feel free to clarify. Thank you!

I love the fabrics in my kit! Can I cut my fabric now, or should I wait for the class with Diane on the 19th? Are there any corrections to the cutting guide?

Hi Melanie, this is Diane Harris. It is fine to go ahead and cut now if you like! Be sure to correctly identify each fabric, matching it with its color name in the pattern. And as you cut, be sure to label each pile of patches with their color name and letter. This will help you SO MUCH later on! I can't wait to watch your progress. Did you get the summer color or the autumn version?

I received my Summer Splash kit- so beautiful! I generally prefer to wash fabric for a new project. Is there any reason you would not recommend this?

Hi Kathy, this is Diane Harris. I think it would be okay to prewash the fabrics, though honestly it's no longer necessary. Back in the 80s and 90s, I washed everything but it seems that fabrics are more colorfast now, and if you do not wash, you have a little more "body" to work with. I think you'll have better results if you don't prewash, but that's just one opinion!

Hey quilting friends! This is Diane Harris, designer of Summer Splash. Just wanted to say hello to everyone who is making this little sampler quilt. I'm looking forward to teaching the classes that will walk you through the trickiest parts of the quilt--although really, it's all quite doable! I'll check in here often to see if there are questions. See you on July 19 for the first mini workshop!

Not a question, but wanted to share the Kona solids I picked out today for the summer version. Excited to start work on this great design!

Carole, Your kona solids will make a beautiful quilt. Not sure if I am going to join in on this project
or not. If I do, I might go with blues and teals, water colors and water motif fabrics since it is called
        Summer Splash!!! HelenW

We made a party of the first video and afterwards sat down and made the first few blocks. I cut and my friend Linda Bennett sewed. We make a great team. And these are such cute and happy little blocks.

Loved the first lesson by Diane Harris. Even though I have been quilting for almost 3 decades I learned things that
were explained in a different way and it was easier to understand why it was important. I am not one to follow a pattern
although I think her pattern is great. Not needing another project to those I am currently doing I liked the miniature type size so I bought the download pattern. This morning I got a newsletter
email from Kari Schell on how to draft a friendship ring variation of the Olympic Rings. I thought it would look great in
my variation of Summer Splash to include some Olympic stuff since they start in Paris in a week. This is the ring block
I drafted to put in my Summer Splash. This is going to be a fun project. HelenW

After downloading the pattern, the thought of cutting everything first was overwhelming.
So I browsed the instructions and decided to make the top left corner block as a sample
to see if Paula Doyles mini mosaic method would work. Not bad, but not as accurate as
I was hoping. Since I plan to throw in some blocks related to the Paris Olympics, I decided
to just pick parts of the pattern to use.

Made another corner block and it turned out more accurate.

Karla, Sorry to see no one has responded to your post. Not sure what you are asking. Starch does
not make the amount of fabric change. Were you talking about washing the fabric then starching it, and you are worried about the shrinkage? Maybe customer service could check with the people
that made up the kits. It is worth an email. HelenW

Hi Karla, thank you for jumping in to Summer Splash with your autumn kit! I love those fabrics, too. I'm wracking my brain but I am not sure I follow your question. I don't think it will take any more fabric if you wish to use spray starch. Or am I missing something, or completely misunderstanding what you are asking? Please let me know, I'll be happy to help.

I will not be washing my fabrics. Just using Best Press on it ahead of time, letting it dry, then pressing it. Thank you!

Why do you think this might require more fabric?

This is such a happy little quilt. Lots of techniques used. I loved making the Dresden plates. They are addicting! I am tempted tp make a whole quilt of them like Diane did. I will quilt it on my home machine. Waiting to see what Diane suggests for the quilting.
