    Complementary Blocks

Complementary blocks. My complementary colours are orange red and aqua blue. I made the 12" block but I didn't want a bunch of blocks that big so I made the centre star in 6" blocks. I chose the salmon coloured fabric with birds on it as my focus fabric, so I have used orange red as the basic colour for all my blocks. I may have misinterpreted the brief, but I may as well continue on with this plan and see how it turns out.

Christine I like your blocks! I'm working on additional blocks in the same way you are just playing with moving the contrast colors and tones around in the block. I also went with the same color combo - Orange Red and Aqua Blue. Great minds!

Dee, I'm also really struggling with pressing my blocks so the seams nest. The book just doesn't give any suggestions and I need some guidance about best practices, I guess.

Complementary Blocks second set. I am making the blocks in the complementary colour of my first blocks as well. These are Aqua Blue and its complementary colour Orange Red.

Christine, your blocks are great and love that you did your own thing on the 6" blocks.

Yes I like getting the variety of colours into the quilt, but it looks like it's gonna be pretty big if I continue making 18" blocks!

Lynne, First of all, I love your block and use of value. I know what you mean about the pressing issue. I will address it on the May 7 class.

My complimentary colors are Yellow-green and purple. Really enjoyed doing this block. I too am struggling with seams.

Yes some seam intersections are quite bulky as the pieces are small. I have mixed up pressing seams open and pressing to the side according to what seems to suit. There could be problems when butting blocks together, but I intend to use sashing strips so this is not as much of an issue. it takes a lot of planning to get them all to nest when joining the blocks. Too much thinking required!

This is lovely! I'll talk a little more about seam pressing.

Really like the colors and the fussy cutting. Beautiful blocks. What is you name? It is always nice to know who is making the
